PSA: Don't put a half SPEC bearing in a DD Monarch

So I did something stupid, and tried putting a half-spec C bearing on my Monarch. I know that bearing doesn’t fit on all C-bearing yoyos, and I was dubious if it would on a yoyo with spacers - the answer is apparently no. It goes on, but gets very stuck.

I had no success with a bearing tool or pliers at first. Left it in the freezer for about an hour, then tried again with vice grips (held vertically so the teeth would have more leverage, and it would be easier to rock back and forth). It left some faint marks on the bearing, but it is free at last!

Now everyone learn from my mistake lol.

Get some .01 shims take spacers out and use a full size bearing. As close as you can get to half spec

Put another half spec and you have a full bearing with a nifty groove

I have had a few yo-yos teach me this very same lesson. Anytime you replace a standard bearing with a narrow one you have to be cautious and understand that this can happen. You loose quite a lot of surface to grip on to when you go narrow, and if it’s a tight fit on top of that you can cause damage to your posts trying to wrestle that thing off. I’m glad you were able to remove it without damage. I’ve broken a few and it’s no fun.
