As I’m staring at my Legendary sitting on my desk that I bought used at $50 thinking I got an incredible steal, I had no idea they liquidated at $80. Still a fun great throw. Sorry you paid $150 for yours.
I also bought mine retail due to FOMO. I should have known YYF throws rarely keep their value and are almost always undermined by yyf its self later on.

Personal rule of thumb, if something is marked, by retail, as “Collector’s Edition” or “Limited Edition” does not implicitly make it a “rare”, “high worth” item. (See Beanie Babies)
Honestly, if you’re buying something because a website claims something… Idk man, but I have a one of a kind, limited edition bridge to sell you
What you suggested about the true inventory tracking regarding possibly one in inventory and limiting One per customer, that certainly would be the exception as opposed to the norm
When somebody like Jake at G2 or Ray at monkey finger has a drop of let’s say 10. Yo-yos, they don’t show an inventory of one. They simply state one per customer.
If you go to a site and it shows one available… Or one available in that color way… That should mean there’s one available, period.
There is no logical reason why a seller would go to the trouble of saying they have one left as opposed to telling people I have several left, but you can only buy one.
To me, the most interesting thing is if a seller, before announcing a drop, states that quantity for sale will be very limited and limited to one for customer.
Obviously, that Notice is at least an attempt to spread the love and not let somebody buy several just because they have the money
The notice might say one per Name… One per email… One per address… One for whatever?
The drawback is, let’s say for example, there is a guy who’s got just enough money to buy the whole run?? And let’s just say this guy has got nine friends that live in various parts of the country. And he’s got these nine friends all on speed dial or Skype or whatever? And he can get a hold of them all in a quick minute. Any hit them all up and tell them I wanna get as many of these yo-yos as I can. But the seller says only one per customer.
Now, if everybody interested in the yo-yo world is right there at the drop getting ready to jam the website then who knows who’s gonna get what?
But when you subtract anybody and everybody that may be too busy to be at the drop or maybe asleep at the wheel or maybe hesitant to even look at the drop because they know that if they do, they’re gonna try to get another yo-yo they don’t need or want or can’t afford… Or for whatever reason they just can’t get the site to work for them
But that guy with the deep pockets and all the friends that are ready to play… They’re all there in the line trying to get a yo-yo because they’re all on a mission. And the yo-yo hog ends up with four or five of them when he should’ve only been able to get one.
Obviously someone selling 10 yo-yos can make the best attempt to be as far as possible and there’s absolutely everything right about that.
The problem is there are always a few people that don’t like to play fair and if you can find them make them cry😂
But I digress, back to the site, showing one in inventory in a weak effort to identify that you can only put one in the cart… I don’t really see that having any value in a way of positively affecting the situation.
If the seller wants to create an urgency, they put one left. That sold they put one left that sold they put one left. Until there’s only one left and then when that sold, there’s none left. Kind of lame but effective.
If a seller only wants people to buy one yo-yo each, then that should be just straightforward mentioned… 13. Yo-yo’s past QC. 13 yo-yos will be available at 12 noon Eastern time. I reserve the right to limit purchases one per customer. If they sell out in a quick minute, Thank you.
…… if the short run does not completely sell out in 12 hours, those that have already purchased one will be allowed to purchase another one if they choose to.
Etc…
Ill take it. Allong with that RBC Proto.
I just wanted an organic titanium with a cool colorway. My buying it had nothing to do with thinking it was some rare piece of art to later sell at an inflated price. I keep my collection relatively small and I throw everything I have.
If you don’t care about rarity, then why does it matter if there’s 1 or 6 left? I’d just be happy I got it. It just seems like you want something to be mad about, which is fair, but it feels like you’re trying to make everyone else mad about it too
If it feels that way, you’re making things up in your head. I’ve not been mad about this in any way other than all the people in this thread assuming my feelings and reasonings for posting this. I was trying to have a laugh and also say, “What’s up with that?”
Maybe I need another 4 year break from the forum.
why would you jump straight there just because everyone didn’t agree with you that this was predatory? seems a bit of an overreaction. just move on and talk about something else, not a big deal
Your title (quoted for reference), is worded to be pretty inflammatory.
Predatory False Advertising
Further, towards the beginning, you made a whole comment, citing, verbatim, laws about scarcity. The whole time before and after the following comment quote, people were telling you you’re free to do what you want (ie, nobody put a gun to your head):
Then, just now, and even before, you don’t actually care that it’s limited edition, nor do you care that it’s actually scarce. (See quote)
Honestly, it just feels like either you want to be mad and make it every ones problem, but nobody seems to care but you (See comment before last), or you’re trying to be mad for other people.
Furthermore, it’s not YYE’s fault you didn’t check other retailers before deciding to buy
If you can’t afford it now, then you don’t need it now [quote=“Splizacular, post:29, topic:417600”]
I’ve missed/passed on some throws because it wasn’t in my budget at the time or I had poorly planned my budget. As an adult, I realize I have responsibilities that come before my hobbies. Admittedly, I did buy things because of FOMO (I’m sure we all have, at one point or another, we are human after all and FOMO is a powerful strategy, if not at least morally grey).
Tbh, if you had stuck with being mad about getting a limited edition that wasn’t actually limited, we might be more inclined to believe you. But you yourself have stated multiple times that you just wanted a throw. I agree with @Splizacular , your words have betrayed you and your arguments and it just makes it feel like you made a post to be angry and want everyone to be angry with you.
Agreed. Nobody is forcing you to be on here. Just because we don’t agree doesn’t mean we can’t all respect each other’s opinion. And you don’t need to announce your departure either. You can literally just… Not log in.
Yep, so angry over here. I’m just fuming…this has actually become incredibly entertaining how much you guys want to think I’m mad about this. It’s hilarious thinking about the time you’re wasting even thinking about this post.
Nah, just channeling my inner @yoyodoc. Don’t forget, when you point, there’s three fingers pointing back at you. You’re responding just as much as we are, individually.
It’s my post and I’ll reply I want to, reply if I want to, reply if I want to. You would reply too if it happened to you.
Cool! I didn’t know you could type a music note!
