Want more pewter!
Yes, I agree!
It’s such a shame that the gap is so narrow at 4.27mm, I wanted a blue one so badly for Xmas. Shape looks great and seems a very fun yoyo, but I can already imagine getting frustrated with string layers over the bearing and feeling the yoyo snagging most of the time
TBH I hadn’t even noticed, and it is interesting that it is so narrow! I’m not too worried for myself, because my string preference is super thin anyway.
My way of play is quite techy and I do lot of layering even with thin string it can happen to snag sometimes, this is why I usually silicone my yoyos and I am happy when I use 4.60mm gaps, are my favourites. It is also possible that they had to reduce the gap because maybe it was too slippy, in couple prototypes I tried in the past, I noticed sometimes the 4.50mm gap was too large and the yoyo didn’t bind well, or it was very slippy to throw, maybe this is the case, would love to hear a response from One Drop, is also possible that they choose it just as a playing preference and have super tight bind
I’ve seen some of your clips and the concern makes perfect sense.
I also wonder if the gap was narrowed because the design was just overpowering wider gaps. Seems like their recent releases range from 4.32 up to 4.7.
Maybe @da5id can comment on the reason.
All Side Effect yoyos are 4.32mm in CAD. Just like any dimension, there is a tolerance. The one we happened to measure to get the specs was 4.27mm. The difference is irrelevant. It’s .05mm. It’s 1/3 the thickness of a piece of paper. How tight you screw it together, changes things more than this. It will not make any difference to your play.
the scale relative to a piece of paper is pretty eye opening. gap width seems to be more or less irrelevant as long as its somewhere around 4.3-4.5mm. that difference is barely bigger than a piece of paper lol
I would imagine the string thickness is also crucial in this equation.
It plays a bigger role for sure. String thickness variance is often much bigger than .05mm.
Between this and the MK1 Ringbearer things going crazy
Slightly OT, but do you have some thin strings that you’d recommend? I’ve only got the thin from OTS so can only compare to that. I did quite like the kitty first class when I had one.
I have been using regular thickness and “tech thin” Night Moves, Night Dragon and Draken strings from Markmont.
One Drop’s bulk poly is actually between those two thicknesses (though not very long, if that is a concern).
I haven’t used strings from Kitty or OTS in a long time, so I’m not sure how they compare.
Dingo??? I’m in!
