They are both pretty great. Right now I enjoy the Chief a bit more, but I think its more about weight distribution as I prefer the shape of the Gradient.
A chief is as good as a gradient which is as good as a yyj classic. I’m going to be the spoil sport and say that one doesn’t play better than the next as you can do the same tricks on a $10 yoyo as you can on a $130 one. Some people may prefer the more solid feel of the gradient while others may prefer a bit more float, thus liking the chief better and others may just prefer the feel of a plastic yoyo.

shape of gradient looks cool, but clyw color ways also look great…

I haven’t tried either, but my comment (did not vote) was very subjective to looks.
