I kind of used to feel that way but that’s what sites like this are for. If your friends want to pick it up, they will. I definitely wouldn’t spend time worrying about it though.
I used to be, but I kept doing it no matter what. My friend is somewhat into yoyos, but really, I’m the only one really into it. He learned double-or-nothing then stopped, but whatever, It feels good to be unique 
I’ve got a friend who, in his heart, throws, but, in public, won’t admit it. He says he doesn’t do it anymore, yet, when I showed him a design, he begged me for one -.-
My girlfriend does it but for some reason is obsessed with perfecting her binds. She gets bored and stops, whereas I’m halfway through learning a trick and she want to go do something else. I also made a friend through the nation forums and we hang out every couple weeks.
Was doing tricks in walmart one day while my GF was looking for movie at the redbox and a guy talked to me about his JJY somethinsuch. Do it in public and you will find more people. Your in NY where? If your in New York city just hang out and throw at GCC.
Oh, I’ve felt this way. Then, yoyoing in in public, someone came up to me and starting asking me which yoyo I was using. And, I’ve been sitting in my car (just sitting there, as my parents drove), and had someone be walking down the side walk doing a bunch of yoyo tricks. That was weird… amazing tricks too… I wish I could have talked to whoever that was.
Edit: Just yoyo in public, or go to a competition, someone will see you, or you might see someone yoyoing.
Love that you do something that most people wont even give 5 minutes to, or could even give 5 mins to, just let them walk on by and say “id just get that there in a knot! yukyuk!”.
You want people to be in to yoyoing?! Then dont sit around and post topics, sit around and yoyo so when someone sees you yoyo they say “wow, i want to do that!”.
Take your identity and make it YOUR identity, yeah yoyoing hasnt blown up… but we dont want it too, we dont want just beiber busting brent stoles on tv, TRUST ME.
WEIRD coincidence. Theres a color picture of someone yoyoing in my newspaper. How often does that happen?
Ugh, I don’t like yoyoing in public. I will be doing the matrix or something equally awesome, and someone will be like, “Wow, can you walk the dog?” Kind of condescending, given my intermediate-to-advanced skill level. Ignorance is annoying.
Cant expect everyone to know everything about yoyo. At least they arent saying “I can do Ladder Escape, nahnahnahbooboo”
I wouldn’t call lack of knowledge ignorance. I would call someone refusing to know of any tricks other than walk the dog and around the world ignorance.

that was funny Q!!! But yeah I have talked to plenty of people that used to yoyo as a kid but I haven’t talked to anyone who actually still yoyo’s and I’ve been publicly yoing for about a year. I guess NC just isn’t that much of a yoing place. And yes i know about the winston salem contest I just haven’t made it up there yet,l but i do plan on taking off work to go there in 2011. I can’t wait and it’s like 6 months away!
That is simply because except during the yoyo booms, yoyo is somewhat of a subculture. One that doesn’t receive much coverage, again unless there is a huge yoyo boom. In which case with this day and age it would be most likely to have Justin Bieber doing a bunch of tricks on TV. The tricks Walk the Dog, Around the world, and Shoot the moon are classic yoyo tricks that get frequent reference because most people who don’t belong to the subculture of yoyoing never hear about Mach 5, LAdder Escape, Dr. Strange, Eli Hops, ect. That doesn’t make the world ignorant, that makes them uninformed. Instead of getting irritated by those people and their comments, why not educate them? Knowledge is power after all. Not to mention they MAY take an interest and join our little subculture, or are you selfish and not want to share your level of uniqueness? I think it is every yoyo player’s duty; if yoyoing in public; to spread the knowledge of our tricks and show that we aren’t arrogant, we just love these toys.
So go out and teach someone.
i agree with justayo. Its better that Yoyoing dosnt blow up to the point of Justin Beiber bustin out tricks in a music video or for there to be some really corny tv show about yoyo’s. Its better that throwing stay’s with the people that really want to learn this skill and that enjoy throwing and not a bunch of people jumping on the bandwagon. That just my opinion 
I feel that this statement is ignorant and selfish.
Why shouldn’t yoyo go mainstream? Every time it has boomed, we’ve had some sort of advancement in the technology, or some jump in the tricks. So it benefits us as well as the rest of the world. If more people yoyoed, there would be people in every town to talk to about it, what they like about it and why they got into it.
Yoyo going mainstream isn’t a bad thing at all.

I agree with you Q, when more people start throwing there will be more tricks and styles being made up ,and remember yoyo is a learned skill so not everybody can just jump on the band wagon (look at how long jensen, miggy, and tyler have all been throwing) this is the same reason that not everybody is a rockstar. So spread the word and don’t keep it to your self as they always say “the more the merrier”.
When someone asks you to “walk the dog” just do it. They are trying to identify with you and that is their only form of reference. Don’t be insulted be flattered. Most people haven’t been exposed to anything beyond an imperial or butterfly. Maybe a fireball if your lucky.
By the way they’ll ask you to do a loop after you walk the dog. Which of course you can’t but do you CAN Eli hops and blow their mind.
