New yoyo help

I just got a ascent by offset. I have it set as a responsive since i just started but i cant do anything with it because the spin is so short i havent timed it but id say around 15 seconds and then it starts rotating. I though t i bought a better yoyo but its working just as well as my 5 dollar one. What do i need to do ?

15 seconds is about right for most responsive yoyos,

its enough time to do basics tricks like rock the baby, walk the dog, or pinwheel

you will have much better spin time once your throws become straighter

also learn how to adjust the tilt of the yoyo by moving one of your hands forward or backwards

you should be able to set it up unresponsive within a week or 2 and then you can enjoy long spin times

Yes! Practice your throw. You’ll get more power with practice. Are you throwing “front style” or “side style (breakaway)”?

What Jeaves is referring to with tilt is while you are in side style and on a trapeze. You may not be to this level yet but you can control the tilt of the yoyo by moving one hand forward and the other backward. It helps get the yoyo back “on plane”.

A really good place to start is “the first 50 Yoyo tricks”.

also I’ll be the one to say it, but there is no hard rule to starting responsive. it’s not necessary. if unresponsive is what you’re interested in, swap to unresponsive, learn to bind, you’ll be off and running in no time. there are a small handful of transferable skills but they’re very different styles and you won’t learn to play one by doing the other. starting responsive has more benefit in just learning to handle and throw a yoyo with fewer and easier restarts. beyond that, play the style that interests you. almost nothing about yoyo progression is linear
