Been thinking about this over the last several days.
History;
Bearings were introduced to yoyos and they were Responsive = Standard for the time.
As yoyo evolved, we witnessed the trend to “Unresponsive” through the early 2000’s
The term “Modern Responsive” came AFTER the standard meta changed too unresponsive.
2010 Mr. Ed Haponik and Spyy released the Flying V. Note this was not coined “Modern Responsive”. I would argue that this was the start of the idea/trend to the style change that followed.
2013 Spencer Berry releases the Walter. Still not Defined as a "Modern Responsive.
Over the next 4 years, 0A was changing. Ed Haponik and Drew Tetz among others “Discovered” a new way to play, introducing stalls. This new Niche Started to grow.
2017 CoreCo Alley Cat - Bearing designed yoyo for this style of Play
2018 Bandoleres Project.
It is at this point the term “Modern Responsive” starts to appear more in the industry and throughout the community. The heart of the Style; 0A Play on a Bearing responsive yoyo. Some get confused because this Style “Can” and/is played on yoyos not initially designed for this specific style.
Example; Maybe the earliest Yoyo that fits the “Modern Responsive” yoyo concept would be the Tom Kuhn Silver Bullet 2.
Since 2018 we have seen Manufacturers start designing yoyos for this style of play; Modern Responsive.
