That burner looks awesome Tommy
I love the specs spelled out on the rim. What a whacky idea.
Been thinking about this over the last several days.
History;
Bearings were introduced to yoyos and they were Responsive = Standard for the time.
As yoyo evolved, we witnessed the trend to “Unresponsive” through the early 2000’s
The term “Modern Responsive” came AFTER the standard meta changed too unresponsive.
2010 Mr. Ed Haponik and Spyy released the Flying V. Note this was not coined “Modern Responsive”. I would argue that this was the start of the idea/trend to the style change that followed.
2013 Spencer Berry releases the Walter. Still not Defined as a "Modern Responsive.
Over the next 4 years, 0A was changing. Ed Haponik and Drew Tetz among others “Discovered” a new way to play, introducing stalls. This new Niche Started to grow.
2017 CoreCo Alley Cat - Bearing designed yoyo for this style of Play
2018 Bandoleres Project.
It is at this point the term “Modern Responsive” starts to appear more in the industry and throughout the community. The heart of the Style; 0A Play on a Bearing responsive yoyo. Some get confused because this Style “Can” and/is played on yoyos not initially designed for this specific style.
Example; Maybe the earliest Yoyo that fits the “Modern Responsive” yoyo concept would be the Tom Kuhn Silver Bullet 2.
Since 2018 we have seen Manufacturers start designing yoyos for this style of play; Modern Responsive.

Have Fun
Thats a sick collection
Wow! I second that, Jesse. What a fun collection! Can I come over and play? Interesting writeup too. Cheers!
I got to come over hang out with the chickens and alpacas and play some mod responsive. Only a 2700 mile drive across country…
Wow Cody. You’re our modern day Malachi. And what a great write up too. That was a serious time investment. You have 20+ that I don’t have but I can add a couple. My collection is Duncan heavy though my tastes have extended over the last year. I’m sick and can’t do pictures:
Butterfly AL - Psychedelic came with half spec
Butterfly Derlin Caps
Imperial AL
Freehand Mini
Freehand One’s
Freehand 2
Pop Art
Honorable Mention:
Panorama - Modified side effects
Diorama- Modified side effects - My orange/green cerakote gets the most throws of anything in my collection.
Thank you Sir.
I did forget to put some of my duncans you mentioned up there.
Hey you filled up your display. What more can we ask? We did both leave the Origen off.
There are definitely “Design Elements” that stand out in true “Modern Responsive” yoyos. I am deliberating on making a spread sheet to note the specs and comparisons.
LOL.
Thats not the whole display. I just didn’t remove the fixies, and cropped them out of the photo. Keeping the photo relevent to the topic.
I did leave the Origen out. I struggle to Stall and keep it on the string. It is a fun throw, but not condusive to Modern Responsive in my opinion.
Add a Plum Crazy Workhorse V2 and there is a serious perfect collection argument.
I have a quick question, I just got a Turbo Grind Machine in the mail and I think it’s gonna be my edc for the next couple of months.
I’ve never used the cork response pads before but it feels great so far.
Q: Should I jump on the bulk cork response pads that’s up on the A-May-zing sale now?
it’s $15 for 15 sets of pads.
Will I need all those for just one yoyo?
thx.
Maybe for the life of the yoyo, kind of overkill. I’m still on the original pads from last year. The new generation last longer as they have a better precision cut compared to the originals. Lube in the bearing makes the most difference in response in my experience. Cotton strings also help with getting more response, as a historical note poly strings weren’t really a thing in the initial cork era.
It’s a good deal. Seeing how the “Retro Pack” is $6.00 for one set of pads and 5 Strings. I don’t play the YYF Strings, so $6.00 for a pair seems steep.
I just checked on this, and they are “Out of Stock”. Bummer.
I must have gotten the last one. Sorry.
Let me know if you want to sell a couple
You can probably email them on the off chance they have more.
I’m curious why no one is talking about the RCS Flat Earth? I snatched up one last night but it doesn’t seem like anyone else is interested.
I feel like the 6 cork pads I have will out live me…
