MB's Powder Thread! Come & see the power of powder!

Majesty translucent blue hubs with clear coated polished spike and metallic blue catch…
Pics tomorrow in the sun, if any, will show the true beauty of “Her Majesty”…

A gram can change the play of a yoyo, the Side Effects pretty much confirm this. And the Majesty looks great! Fit for a king.

Thank you. I’d be willing to bet you that if you had two identical yoyos side by side string bearing response all the same and one was a gram lighter that 95% of the people here couldn’t tell the difference.

On side effects, that one or two gram difference is concentrated in one place on the yo-yo. In powder coating, that gram or less is distributed over the entire yo-yo, which is much less noticeable.

I’ve played a few powder coated and a few painted yo-yos over the years. The difference between a coated yo-yo and one that is not is pretty much negligible.

se’s are also at the center point which gives them less reciprocating mass. Kind of like the old merry -go-round. When your on the inside not so much force on the outside hang on. Overall less of an impact as say a weight ring type application.

Her majesty looks quite ravishing.

Nice and sunny here today so the pics should show nicely.

24kt translucent gold powder coat on it’s way to a…?

Beautiful. I’m gonna guess… on its way to someone who works at YYF?

Thanks. No on its way to some type of powder coat colorway. Have not decided yet open to suggestions too. Have to find out if translucent colors will get muddled over top of the gold. Need to do a test piece later.

Was leaning towards a metallic splash.

Do a clear with silver sparkle splash!

Don’t think it’s gonna show up to good. The gold is actually very light and the polish under it will most likely drown out the silver sparkle. Some of the translucents do show up on the test piece and now gonna do the metallics to see how they look.

:frowning: How about orange sparkle?

Already decided on something. Went a bit simpler but should look real nice.

The orange I have is a tricky color to lay down. It’s super sensitive to thickness vs. hue. Thinner is lighter thicker is darker which is the case with most but the orange especially. I think the orange would fair best in a masked type situation along with the gold. Maybe alternating bands of each color or something like that.

Should be done tomorrow some time. Gotta get my Secret Santa taken care of first!

Sounds neat. Can’t wait to see the finished result.

I bet that powder coat over slightly tarnished aluminum would look great!

Maybe like you had mentioned to me about a blast. Blast it do a rough polish via some buffing and then the gold. A little shine under it mixed in with the raw aluminium. Either gonna look good or like roadkill.
