I only like yoyos manufactured in Fólkvangr

hahahah…many of you are really cool…we have psychics and metallurgists that Japanese master chain makers…move over!
In this forum there are swarms of fanboys who spend salaries on RSO or Luftverk products because they are sublime, excellent … sorry, where do they make them? and the Turning Points? Japan? hmmmm…
In Da5id’s words, when OD way back in 2008 produced the M1 where did he cut short in terms of quality? Why did Chinese yoyos cost more than their model at the time? How many times have I read that one of the best General-yo is the Legate… “Made with pride in the… in the… emhhh…”
Do I have to continue or is this enough to make you understand that you are just wasting digital space?

You see, he used to be Da6id but had to subtract 1

I thought Ray said that MFDs are machined in North America.

i’d definitely pay more for the money to stay in my country, but i’m not gonna pretend like yo-yos made somewhere else are worse in any way, i fully respect chinese engineering of yo-yos. it all just depends on my budget lol

Agree

Yoyo kennel are a really neat concept. I just had no interest in there first yoyo Shape in the slightest. Often the US based one’s that try to start up pick a really safe design and it doesn’t hit any notes with me. Then they fade away before doing anything interesting. Which makes sense looking at the market saturation and safe designs in yoyo.

The US perse does not have a corner on quality. One Drop does because they are an excellent company and are in the US.

At this point in my life, I am very selective with my yoyo purchases. I only purchase high quality yoyos. Period.

I typically buy from companies that frequent this discussion forum because they produce high quality products wherever they are from and have good reputations.

Don’t forget Canada. Some of the best yoyo products I have come from Canada.

My next purchase is going to be the new throw from Motion. Motion is consistently a high quality company.

Jeff

PS. I still do my best to purchase “quality” products made in the US (and Canada).

Really? I had a whole argument with someone on here awhile back about the pheasant being like the recognition cause they were both made by fpm. Maybe it was all for nothing haha. I swear read it was made by fpm forget where I read it. If that’s the case I want more topyos then. Ha

Can’t stand a yoyo that chirps like a bird when it’s unscrewed.

Nobody… even me, wants to see how long of a reply I could generate on this overbaked subject.

But, I wanted to at least contribute a little on the situation, so I set up a test just to see>

My girl was nice enough to help with the challenge.

I sat down on a chair. Eyes closed, palms up, facing forward.

My girl put a Chinese yo-yo in one hand and an American made yo-yo in the other hand…… and balanced an Apple on the top of my head.

In less than 5 seconds….Bam… Results!

She never even hinted at what was what.

But I KNEW it was an Apple on my head…

I didn’t even have to unscrew it.

As stated, this has been discussed before.

Production of a Yoyo is not just the design; But the materials used and the accuracy and repeatability of the manufacturer.

Context; Best USA bimetals - #82 by Pun1sh3R

Ultimately it comes down to Quality AND price. In todays age of “Instant Gratification”, who can get it to me “Now” at the cheapest price?

Unfortunately the US can not support this at this time.

Have Fun.

Make more yoyos in China. Make them all in China.

People comparing American made yoyos to manufacturers that are more affordable even by Chinese pricing doesn’t make sense since America pretty much only has one manufacturer (OneDrop) and China has many. One Drop has high QC, it doesn’t make sense to compare it to a Chinese brand with less QC and claim that “American manufacturing is higher quality” because there are Chinese brands with just as high QC (FPM). “My Chinese yoyos are squeaky” doesn’t really make sense without context on who actually manufactured the yoyo.

Sorry for discussing an old topic. I just wanted to chat with everyone about it. Ultimately reducing cost leads to larger profits or better price for the consumer. As well as let the consumer buy other models with saved money. That leads to a larger collection which is always cool. I really think there is a market for all country’s to produce yoyos. As mentioned above the shops and people who make them matters more than country of origin. Thanks everyone for your input! Keep it friendly.

This relatively concise post from yoyodoc might be the most surprising thing in the entire thread.

No need to over explain the Magical accuracy of my Test.

Results trump extended dialogue.

I think this is a hard topic to discuss without information that is (afaik) not widely available.

E.g.

  • What percentage of a yo-yos price is cost of production?
  • What percentage of cost of production is labor?

Makes no difference to me. The location of the CNC Machine on this planet makes little to no difference when it’s spinning. What matters is if its good.

I would have cared more when I was fifty.
Heck maybe even fifty five.
