MYY - Skyva (first run skyva and my entry yoyo with the Node)
CLYW - OG Yeti (actually bought this a long time ago on eBay for super cheap, i bought it without knowing how to yoyo)
TopYo - Mojo (because pink)
Recess - First Base (because pink neko)
Pool Party - Banana Hammock (my first and only “clyw” also pink)
.
OD - Legendary Terrarian (first expensive throw and first OD when I came back)
OD - Terrarian (little brother experience)
OD - MMC (gotta have a MMC)
MYY - Node (first throw when i came back, stripped unfortunately, but would love another in the same color)
RCS - Metal Head (wanted an extremely wide yoyo, plus colorway.)
.
AP - Khuno (new pickup, new favorite brand)
Retic - BOA (organic, easily one of my best performing organics and probably my smoothest yoyo. it being off center in the picture is annoying me, but I’m not willing to retake the pic since I put them all away.)
OD - Rebirth (love the design, wanted to put the brass mmc se on it, but feels better with UL’s)
YYF - Shutter (my first and last YYF experience, it’s been in a box until I snapped this pic.)
Duncan - GTR Beta (came in a pack with the Haymaker for $100 i think, was a good way to try a Bi Metal while also getting a monometal for “free” since $100 was the going price for bi metals.)
.
OD - Rev1 (Mystery Box from One Drop, Parlay as well, not pictured)
Anti-Yo / Recess - Hardcoat YWET (wanted a Paul Escolar Version, still do, but had to get one to try it in order to understand all the hype, now I understand, and now I have a problem)
Static Co. x OD - Black Nickel Sudo (Loved the parlay so it was an obvious choice to get a Sudo which is like a Legendary Terrarian version of the Parlay.)
Duncan - Metal Zero v2 (off ebay during the same time as the Yeti, still one of my favorite throws)
Duncan - Haymaker Beta (clean and classy modern playing yoyo.)
Feels like I have too many now that I’ve listed them. I still have a lot of things I’d like to pick up, but I don’t use the BST to keep myself from overspending on this hobby. I like having a smallish collection, they all get played in my rotation except the Node and Shutter, so nothing really sits around getting unused. I am hoping that a Kuntosh/5KQV/Cascade run is in the pipeline for One Drop.
Also if anyone has a recommendation to something that feels like my metal zero, please let me know.
Thanks, have a good new years everyone and be safe!
I know you’re turned off by yoyofactory with the Shutter. I haven’t played a Shutter, what’s feeling weird about it?
I am going to suggest another yoyofactory that I personally believe will reignite your thoughts on yoyofactory and it will only cost you $20 bucks
The Skyline. It comes with hubstacks, but they can easily be removed to get you that lightweight experience you love about the Drifter. I absolutely love it, and regret trading my OG Skyline back in the day.
As somebody who wasn’t around to experience that era of YYF and hubstacks when they were new, honestly the Skyline might be my least favorite yoyo I’ve ever played. I know a lot of the oldheads love it, but it’s one of the only yoyos that bordered on “this might actually be a bad yoyo” territory to me. It actually just felt like playing an undersized rock that vibed hard with the hubstacks on. I feel like some sharp spikes can do everything I’d do with stacks, so even the stacks aren’t appealing to me. I’ve enjoyed all of the modern YYF stuff I’ve played, but geeze I did not like the Skyline at all. I think it’s just for a different generation of throwers than me.
I had a Shutter and Czech Point as my new throws after I used the Node as a beginner for almost 2 years. Shutter just feels awkward to me, you’ll notice I don’t buy any odd shaped designs because of my dislike for the shutter. After I bought both of them, I ended up still using my node until the Legendary Terrarian.
Czech Point felt great, but it was b-grade or worse, the first time I tried to unscrew it, it took gorilla strength and then I stopped because I knew I would strip it if I tried to unscrew it because the factory forced in the axle or hub idk. I liked that throw, but considering YYF went 0 for 2 right off the bat I don’t feel any reason to spend money on their products when I’d rather invest that money into a One Drop. The only thing I would consider buying from them is an old 888, or Fast401k.
I will look up a skyline though, I won’t ignore your recommendation. Appreciate it a lot!
This is my current throwtation; my collection is about the size of where I’d like it to be, though I wouldn’t mind a few more haha! I have more that aren’t pictured, though I am considering selling or trading those off.
The oldest one in my collection (in terms of ownership) is my TopYo Mojo in the top right, sanded to a foggy finish.
The RCS Showpony, middle right, was bought off the Facebook BST, it’s my boutique brand throw (so comfy and smooth).
The Recess First Base and Throwback Arcade in the bottom right came into my collection at roughly the same time I believe, two absolutely stellar organic throws!
The Duncan Mosquito and Wheels at the top were the two best antique store finds, always stoked to find yoyos in the wild!
This past year I’ve been obsessed with the Duncan Freehand line. It started last year around late December when I got the Freehand AL on a whim (top left), and instantly fell in love. Soon after was the Freehand One AL (bottom left) and probably my favorite in the collection, and the Freehand Next Gen (top middle). The most recent acquisitions was the Freehand One AL small bearing variant (middle left), which got me into a drawing to win the centerpiece of the collection: a Freehand One Titanium small bearing prototype!
To fill the empty space is to be the new plastic Freehand One preproduction in blue, though it’s currently sitting in my campus mailbox and I won’t be able to obtain it until they open back up on January 3rd. Bummer!
I started throwing again 1 year ago on Xmas. Everything here except the blue throw at the bottom was since then… the blue is a FHZ from whenever that was (2005? FH2 in storage)
Everything here feels different and special in its own way. Most of what I have is OD some other notable throws from ZGRT and RSO lunar gravity. The shutter was my first metal and unresponsive throw.
I have really enjoyed throwing again and restarted what I loved from all those years ago
(I will try to add a short description about each when I can, starting with the most unique or fun to talk about, then adding in chronological order depending on location)
TMBR Oakeh2020- Uhm… good fixie I guess? I don’t have a lot of experience with fixie to say otherwise. I like the unique axle. But the fit and finish is disappointing in terms of woodworking. For the price I expect to not see any sanding marks, especially this deep(from both my tmbr)(I had to hand re-sand because it bugged me so much) But thats me
RSO Gravity- easily my most expensive throw, it was at a time of perfect disillusionment and not enough sleep and a cool piece for me to pell the trigger. Sooo cool🤩
OD Par Avion- one of my favorite throws, stable and super long spinning + easy to catch makes this fun and easy floaty good time. Put me on the hunt for the swirl ano
OD Freesolo- if you know, you know… if you don’t, you should.
OD Kuntosh 5000qv- reminds me of the freesolo, long spinner and super stable, light and fast definitely the OD lambo
Congratulations.
All you need is a slightly more protective and practical case … and I recommend choosing it large because many more yoyos will arrive over time!
I have a lot of throws in my collection so I can’t list them all, but there is the photo of all my throws, except the ones I got in the last week or so.
I can thank my late mother for the following list. She bought me a duncan butterfly xt so that I could quit vaping (THAT I DID! Cant say I saved any money ). I realized real quick that I wanted something unresponsive so a nabbed the Sage. I lived with that for a whole year while I “Leveled Up”. Getting my hands on the bi-metal shutter I fell in love with the beauty and engineering. I collect #22’s in honor of my mother.
