Let's talk Mechanical Keyboards

Keychron is always a ridiculously good value. If I decide to stop using my personal mech at work, I’ll be putting in a requisition for a keychron. Nice enough to make me happy, cheap enough that the purchasing department won’t bat an eye at the IT guy wanting a weird keyboard.

I’ve considered that as well. I’ll be looking into numpads once I can have a hobby budget again. (I could just clean my corsair…) I have muscle memory for typing numbers on one so using the top row numbers feels a bit unnatural.

I feel you there. I go to enter a long string of numbers on the top row and I have to pull out the trusty one-pointer-finger-at-a-time routine.

Anyone in on the Zoom65 v3 preorder?

Thank you for the link.

Could someone recommend pre lubed linear switches? There are so many out there that I dont know where to even start looking!

My win11 keyboard wore out. It was an older Lenovo keyboard that came with a defunct computer.

This is a Logitech G413 SE mechanical switch keyboard with a study aluminum frame. The touch and clickiness are excellent. It is so nice, I ordered a second one for my linux computer that currently has a Happy Hacker Lite keyboard that I have had for years. It will be nice to have the same keyboard on both computers.

Here is my work in progress. NuPhy Halo75 V2 with mostly Kinetic Labs Gecko Silent Linear Switches. The 10 key is a Keychron but looking for another.

My Planck died - its USB port fell apart because I was switching PCs daily and if there is anything that needs fixing on Plancks is their USB port. I’m on my backup Vortex Core right now and…

After years of tip toeing around it I finally gave up and ordered my first HHKB. It should arrive tomorrow.

And let’s ignore the fact that I’ve had a deadstock Planck as well as a set of Holy Pandas waiting for an assembly for over a year.

Anyone use the Gateron Beer Tactile Switches? The specs sound right up my alley since I like Cherry MX browns.

if you have a soldering iron you could try fixing the USB port? or taking it to a repair shop?

My good mate is a tech wizard and we will try to fix the port! Although one cannot have too many keyboards nor too many yo-yos.

true that,
variety is so enjoyable

Oh boi. I entered the land of Topre and I’m not leaving anytime soon. I can’t believe I waited so long to buy HHKB, although that might be the initial enthusiasm after the first day (and I’m still getting used to the layout).

But for now - the experience is wow, just wow.
