Holy Pandas; do they live up to their reputation?
I believe that’s what I’ve heard, but maybe not. I think they are supposed to be pretty good but I haven’t had any experience with them obviously.
Not for the price, too overhyped. I’d go for zealios/kailh box navies/whites, if youre spending that much dosh per switch already, or kailh/gateron mx clones if youre tryna be a baller on a budget.
Yeah, so this is an example of a mechanical keyboard!
It depends whether it’s purely rubber dome or has mechanical switches.
I’m here for a question, an opinionated question about switches (sorry if I post to much here lol. I’ve been hardcore researching this). Which switch in YOUR opinion is best for each category: linear, tactile, and Clicky. I’m having a very hard time on deciding switches and I would like some input. Price range is not a factor and preferably only mx style. Thanks in advance!
What do you mean by “mx style”?
Cherry clones. So no ttc or other stuff.
Okay, but what specific feature(s) of MX switches are important to you?
Well, mainly I just want to figure out what other people like first, but the keyboard is going to be gaming oriented, if that helps any.
Ah, I guess hardcore gamers should be the ones to chime in here, then. I only buy/build keyboards aimed at typing/coding, not gaming.
@thepants what switches do you like?
I have very specific keyboard goals for the build pictured in this thread, which was a silent gaming keyboard. So for this purpose I really like the silent switches by Zeal PC, this board has Sakurios in it. They’ve very very smooth without any extra work
I also cut up a bunch of earplugs to fill extra space in the case to further dampen sound, worked fairly well for basically no money
Really this is all personal preference and you’ll likely get a wide variety of answers because there’s a LOT of different switches and few people have tried that many.
Linear: Kailh BOX Blacks is what I use on my work board and I enjoy them a lot. My home keeb has lubed NK Creams and I like the BOX Blacks more. Call me a heathen.
Tactile: Gateron Browns were on my first board and I enjoyed them well enough, though tactiles feel like a weird compromise between linears and clickys.
Clicky: Kailh BOX Pale Blues. The the click bar (instead of a jacket/film) on Kailh clickys feels great. Cherry Blues only have the click on the way down, Kailhs with click bars have a click on the downstroke AND upstroke. That’s TWICE THE CLICKS. Though they can get incredibly annoying. BOX Navies are also nice but the required force actually can tire out your fingers.
In general, I’d stay away from Cherry switches. The build quality (mainly stem wobble) is really off-putting to me.
From what I’ve read, most people prefer linears for gaming.
Anyone looked at these keycaps? They have a nice selection and they are all doubleshot.
Seems a little to good to be true…
You get what you pay for. Just by looking at them you can tell they’re not super high quality. They’ll work fine for typing, though
They are double-shot, yes, but the second shot is translucent plastic in order to allow RGB LED light to shine through them. No thanks.
So that’s not good? There goes my money saving plans lol.
I guess it depends on whether or not you like RGB backlighting and have that backlighting on all the time. If not, then translucent legends are rather pointless and ugly, IMO.
