Let's talk about dings

A yoyo should earn its dings. I like to think of dings as evidence of going for it.

On the other hand, its no big deal if you are a pro and get free yoyos on the regular to just drag a bunch on the floor. That’s just fun shock value but relates little to why the average thrower does or does not care about dings.

It’s sorta like raw denim (and I blame yoyoing for getting me into that) where the fabric reflects the wear and tear of experience. However, the way dings look on anodized aluminum isn’t nearly as pleasing. It’s cool that some yoyos were made to wear their age well (copper YWET) and I wish there were more ideas like that (Markmont nickel plating tarnish, Rockabully finish leaving some spots raw to tarnish). I like yoyos as aesthetic objects but the inevitable dings and how they will make the yoyo look isn’t something that is really accounted for in yoyo design.
