So basically a cerakote version of sm is kind of too difficult to pull off?
I’m not 100% it can even be replicated, but even if it could, the yoyos wouldn’t be smooth - there are just too many colors in it.
I just want more colorshifting ones. The Wyvern’s egg one is so beautiful!
As with all types of aluminum painting, I continue to have serious doubts about durability and impact resistance. I’ve already seen some photos of a neon green Wyvern with dents and, as with all aluminum alloy coatings, entire portions of the color come off… The layer can be hard like ceramic, baked in the oven, etc. but it doesn’t cling to aluminum anyway and it’s like this for magnesium too. this is why, for example, I have never wanted to have, even in the past that it would have been possible to find a Levi Peak at reasonable prices or I have never wanted to buy, no matter how beautiful they are, one or more yoyos of @yoyospirit (IMHO)
I like my Wyvern a lot! Cerakote surface makes it perfect for grinds, it feels nice and soft, plus it gives satisfying sound to the yo-yo when string hits it. The color and the look in general of this yo is incredible in my opinion! Looking forward to releases of different models like Parlay, Diorama, Overture and other organic goodness from One Drop in those cool finishes!
i have never been accused of being particularly delicate.
regardless, this is my favorite metal yoyo finish in terms of texture and looks. def putting my vote in for a lavender fat tire or kuntosh. <3
I appreciate your attitude but this isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement for cerakote. I have two of the cerakote ODs and I also noticed on my white Kamuraiju that the finish is incredible delicate. I love the look of these yoyos but the anodized versions seem way more durable and less prone to damage.
I’ll take the increased feel and performance over durability every time for these Cerakotes!
So, do you feel that there’s tricks that you need Cerakote to do, or at least do smoother?
Fingerspins and grinds on pyramatte can be difficult. The pyramatte finishes have gotten less sticky and more “blast like” in recent years, but still aren’t as capable as a nice blast or Cerakote when it comes to tricks that require the hand touching the yoyo while spinning. I guess you could wear a glove, but I never do.
For regens you certainly don’t “need” the Cerakote finish, but the finish of the green Cerakote definitely adds something with regen tricks. It’s like the Cerakote adds another level of controllable response during these types of tricks. While I can’t prove it, I also feels like the yoyo has higher rpm’s during a throw or regen due to the string having a grip effect on the Cerakote. The string slides over the finish perfectly, but seems to grip it at the same time during a throw. I could definitely see how this effect would really appeal to a regen heavy play style like @edhaponik has.
If you are the type to wanna shove a yoyo in your pocket unprotected or let it dangle around on a belt loop then it’s gonna get scratched up instantly. If you’re like me and you keep your daily carry in a little bag before it goes in the pocket then I wouldn’t worry about the decreased durability. A ding or a scrape with a Cerakote isn’t gonna be much worse than a typical blasted yoyo, but a Pyramatte finish is more durable than both Cerakote or a blast.
It’s a different look that’s probably not going to have universal appeal, but I think some of these could look amazing over time.
Respectfully requesting a run of Nitros with the Cerakote!
Thanks for the feedback!
I would second the lavender kuntosh!
Are there other colors that would have the same effect as the green ones? How about some neon yellow UV reactive Parlays?
For the second time I’m requesting the creamsicle rev 1 or Fat Tire idk if orange/white swirls are possible but that would be amazing otherwise just creamsicle orange
I wonder if swirling two or more colors together before dipping the part is possible?!?
Yes, a preorder would be insanely excellent!
Take my money!!!
cries in missing all the cerakote drops thus far
