Let’s Hear Your Thoughts About the Atmos Butterball

I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts and opinions about their Butterball’s. I’m always in the market for a capable modern organic shaped yoyo.

I didnt like it as much as everybody else seems to. Seemed to play slower and more reluctant than I like. Noma is where its at.

What about the butterball didn’t sit right with ya?

How does it play? Does it seem capable of multi wrap modern type tricks?

in my opinion it can definitely handle whatever you throw at it, just not horizontal play for sure. You can feel it at the end of the string but it doesn’t feel so heavy that it’s slow. It’s stable but floaty. definitely not for super fast play styles but it can pull its weight comparatively to other organics out there.

That’s one thing I was curious about, the stability.

Atmos recently had preorders open for an update to their Cephas line, which I believe is more rim weighted than the Butterball due to it’s capped design. If stability is a sticking point, maybe it’s worth waiting for the store to go live with the re-release. I think its slated for late May/early June?

The only 2 atmos I own cephas +fruitloop
Both soulless empty hollow yo-yo, very average to me
I do not enjoy to play when these often, but I wish I do because they looked so good, and they feel nice in the hand

I have the butterball omw in the mail, I hope it breaks the atmos curse for me, it looks so soft and amazing

should’ve been signed up for that lol thanks !

The Butterball is one of my favorite organics. There are definitely faster and more agile/lighter organics out there, but the Butterball just feels right to me; very stable, INSANELY comfortable, floaty while still having a good presence on the string, and enough power to get through most anything I throw at it. It’s what I wished/wanted my CLYW Beater to be. Their Noah is faster and more responsive, but sacrifices power, IMO. I missed out on the Noma (on the hunt ), so I can’t speak to that, though with side effects I imagine you can tune it to feel quite different, depending on what you’re looking to get out of it. If you’re a fan of organic shapes, you ought to have a Butterball in your collection.

I think the butterball is objectively the best organic I’ve tried. It simply does everything well. That being said, I do prefer the Noma simply because its lighter. It has less stability and spin time that the butterball but I still prefer it.

Head over to the atmos site and check out the projects page for the design notes. They absolutely, 100% hit the mark on what they wanted out of this throw. I always hate to say my favorite because what I need in the moment changes quite frequently. I can say that butterball is often the one I’m holding.

Butterball is extremely balanced, stable and smooth. Feels almost “square” or 1:1 on the string which was a bit odd out of the box for me. I don’t care for 1:1 but butterball just hits the gap without question. Directionally, butterball just goes where you ask it to. Whether intentional or for corrections, she just keeps going and stays there. I haven’t played too many throws that allow you multiple attempts at landing something. There should be no worry about strings wraps.

One thing that took a little getting used to for me was the removal of the “stepped schmoove”. Butterball still has a schmoove groove but it’s less pronounced. I had to dial in the binds but that didn’t take long. I play ZS Air exclusively and things are super snappy.

Butterball for me is in my top organics. It’s not the most powerful o shaped YoYo I own but it does everything I want it to do still. It feels amazing, it has a float feel to it that is just right. Idk I love the dang thing.

If you want a stable organic you could try the Beater. That thing is a tank.

that’s interesting – not to invalidate what you’re saying ,but in my experience, i feel the butterball is significantly stabler than the beater

I’m curious, what organics of it’s type do you feel are faster than the Butterball (besides Noma, which I feel is an unfair comparison because it’s so ultralight) - I feel like it’s plenty responsive for me. Obviously, none of this shape archetype are going to be ideal for things like rail combos.

In comparison to the Beater like some others have made, I no longer own my Beater but I felt like it felt a bit more “direct” than the Butterball - more solid on the string, a little faster to accelerate, a bit more power. Almost more like an organic speced yoyo with a competitive feeling to it. I will say, I think the Beater was the single best unresponsive yoyo I’ve ever owned for regens, though the Butterball also does pretty well here.

I think the Butterball’s magic is that it just has a comfort factor to it that is hard to explain. The dimensions are actually relatively large (width wise) but the shape makes it feel not too oversized, the simplicity of the design is gorgeous, and while it does lean more towards the floaty/light side of the spectrum, it has just enough of a touch on the string to make it feel very controllable for varied pacing. Also, I love that they went with a more traditional high-wall instead of the “schmoove-step” - it makes binds and regens feel so crisp. In some ways it feels like the “platonic ideal” of a modern organic to me. I’ve been sizing down my collection recently, but this one I’m definitely holding on to.

I love my beater. Stable and can take a drop on the wood flooring like a champ.

What are some of the more powerful organic you own?
