you got it right
Most of the rest of the yoyo world seems to think so though it seems.
Key words there being “in a freestyle”. If I knew nothing about yo-yoing but watched BAC freestyles, do you think I’m more likely to look up which yo-yo Jensen used, or Anthony Rojas? Actually thinking about it I’d be more likely to look up ANY of the other 19 finalists before I looked at Jensen because his yo-yo snagged so he just threw it around for 2 minutes. I’m not going to buy a CLYW because Jensen had fun on stage with it - he could have done the same routine with a Duncan Butterfly.
I’ve never owned a CLYW yo-yo - do you think Jensen’s routine and this discussion have made me more or less likely to buy one in the future?
Still, it’s not the word I would have used, but I don’t pretend to speak for every single yoyoer out there
I think the opposite. It makes me realize how yo-yoing is supposed to be fun sometimes too, and his yoyo didn’t snag by the way. He was creative and that was the first time I’ve seen such an innovated trick. He lightened people’s spirits up. And did you see that first combo? So smoooooth.
I’ve never said Jensen is not an amazing player, because he is and no amount of “fun” freestyles will change that. I don’t see what was innovative about snagging a yo-yo and swinging it around but whatever floats your boat I guess.
a classic fixed axle trick
Chimera, that is a fixed axle trick preformed by some people at worlds. It is not the yoyo snagging, it is an intentional pulling on the string so the yoyo stays at the bottom of the string but in a temporary stop-and-go type thing. It’s actually a really cool and fun trick but if you think it just looks like snagging then I could argue that Jensen’s tech just looks like knots and spinning yoyo. I mean I love his tech im just playing devil’s advocate.
You know, I just watched it again and other than the part where he deliberately snags and just throws it around it’s really not as bad as I thought when I first watched it. I guess that part just stuck in my mind, because it was clear at that point that he didn’t care about the contest at all.
Nah man. You oughta try the trick too, It’s really fun.
Its called a pocket watch.
Why? Other than it not really being a knot so you can pull/throw it out, what’s different between that trick and just swinging around a dead yo-yo at the end of a string?
You can regen from the trick. Can’t really do that from a dead throw
I get that, but it’s not like he threw into the trick, he just grabbed the string and pulled hard. If he had thrown into it the “temporary snag”, swung it around a bit, then thrown out I’d probably be more impressed. Like I said, the rest of the stuff was impressive.
Haha you dont just ask “BUT WHY is it fun?!??!” you just kinda try it out. It’s new and it’s fun, to me anyways.
Just wanted to add, when Jensen won worlds, he spent several precious seconds binding his yoyo repeatedly and gesturing that he couldn’t remember what trick he had planned next. He doesn’t need every single second of the freestyle to win.
Of course not but there is a clear difference between the two freestyles. His worlds he actually tried and the wasted time was a blank in his kind where he couldn’t remember what to do. What he did at BAC was completely opposite. That was clearly his intent to do that mockery.
Let’s say Jensen did do those binds on purpose, he planned them, for theatrical purposes. What then?
In my opinion, you’re all just bitter that he’s better than all of us.
