According to Duncan documentaries (yes, Iâve watched documentaries on yo-yos/yoyos) and Etymology Online, âyo-yoâ originated from one of the Filipino languages. The founder of Duncan carried that name straight over to America.
Tl;Dr - Yo-yo is formally correct; yoyo is widely-accepted shorthand.

Two capitol Yâs has always been my preferred spelling. âYoYoâ but Yo-Yo is also acceptable. It just always has to be capitalized IMO.
