Gonna make tape measures a little tricky, lol. I too kinda want a c bearing delrin version of this…

If we’re talking a 3d printed c bearing version I can make one for you quite easily. My usual 3d printed yoyo deal, promise to do a good deed some time in the future or make a charitable donation and I’ll ship ya one when I have some free time.

If we’re talking a machined Delrin or Bakelite version, I don’t know… I haven’t done any unresponsive prototypes yet. Easiest would probably be cabal guts but it would be more expensive, they add like $20 or something to a yoyo.

If we are willing to accept some more vibe, and let’s be honest this design is all about the vibes so to speak, my shop can mount threaded nuts into a machined body directly, a more old school yo-yo style. My completely off the cuff no research don’t hold it to me guesstimate is somewhere between 3-$400 for a small prototype run.

I can see how the 3d printed ones hold up to some throws tomorrow, if the geometry causes mass vibes that would prevent machining I should be able to tell from the printed version. If it plays well enough without spazzing out then I can look at modifying the design for some kinda machine shop job.

I meant 3d printed throw some generic pads/bearing/axle in it, it just looks cool lol

Happy to make you one. I’ll see how the fixie holds up to make sure the geometry is good and then I can throw some basic magic yoyo pads I buy in bulk in a printed one for you.

im operating with minimal 3d print knowledge here. I just think it would be a kickass unresponsive haha

I love the idea of a Bakelite yoyo. I was already thinking about it from time to time. The one downside is that it is brittle compared to delrin or polycarbonate so it would need to be an over carpet baby, but it would be pretty rad.

I am operating with an autistic special interest level of 3d printing knowledge so I can figure out the specifics haha.

I feel like that would just add to the unique experience. Like the LKGlass yoyo that was in PiF for almost 2 years.

Both these renders look good enough to proto:shaking_face:

That glass yoyo is back home safe now it was surprising it traveled all that time and distance and never broke

Didn’t forget about the acorn mini, but I can’t 3d print this design. Solid copper, 40.6 mm diameter, 30.5 mm width, mr85.

This was my immediate thought but then I very quickly switched over to… but BAKELITE!!!

This is 100% of my youth exposure to yo-yo. Until the Fireball came out in my late 20s

So I very much agree with this call.

Bakelite FTW!! :+1::fire:

One compromise is I could ask my shop to source some Micarta for it. Micarta is the same resin as bakelite but layered with fabric, probably linen for this, it significantly improves the toughness and impact resistance. By default it’s usually a nice acorn brown.

This is honestly the coolest looking yoyo I think I have ever seen

I’m trying to wrap my head around just exactly how that thing is going play. I’m imagining it being very powerful.
