Customs is holding the yo-yos and I’m having to navigate some legal logistics nonsense. Multiple sets of legal paperwork and having to grant DHL power of attorney as it relates imports. May cause delays.

Apparently not DHLs fault this time. The machine shop labeled the shipment as “silicone parts and copper brackets” and customs is naturally like these don’t look like a bracket. I’ve filled out the paperwork saying what they are twice and it’s been rejected twice. I’m really hoping customs doesn’t destroy them or something stupid

I’ll call them anything to stop having to fill out long pdf forms every day and having them rejected every day for different pedantic reasons like a bureaucratic groundhogs day

I have a feeling part of this is to start deterring people from importing stuff. Like oh tarifs aren’t enough, well we’re going to also burn resources just to make your life hell.

I suspect you are correct. Sadly it won’t change that US based machine shops gave me quotes in the $1000 plus per yoyo price range so I don’t see them succeeding at anything.

The problem is willingness. It’s likened could processs Crude oil we drill in Texas in the US but the plants that could price it to the point they might as well be refusing the work and it instead all flows to Mexico.
Same thing for most clothing and fabric work US made textiles are priced so high they might as well just outright say they won’t do the work (it’s FU pricing) either way point is it can be done here but the economics are so off to make it work it just won’t happen. The only way to actually force US made would be outright bans on imports and they would be insane and absolutely terrible for the US economy.

Yeah I mean I was quoted $40,000 for 40 yo-yos from a USA shop that advertised how friendly they were to small businesses and low runs. one in Canada wasn’t far behind at like $38,000. Local machine shop that mostly does agricultural work quoted me like $3000 for a proto run of 5 brass units. I find it hard to believe the farmers in the area are paying those prices to cut brass into a circle and tap it. Definitely just got a ton of FU prices from anywhere in North America.

Definitely some kind of crackdown on imports. I order from Prusa all the time. My package of one roll of filament and a couple replacement 3d printer parts has been stopped by customs for inspection now too. That or I’m on some kind of list now and they are going to inspect and question me on every single package from now on.

Hey I’m with you all here but all the crap & poor processing or crazy shipping from one zip code to another and the lack of money supporting the postal service & Usps is resulting in all the tariff tiffs to closing too many post office substations so now local mail in central Illinois has go to St Louis Mo. first….just to return to Springfield (central Illinois) from the same city people! The same city….. go to Stl first & back to Sprgfld to address 6 miles away??? Really?
