I made a video edit and would love your feedback

Here is my first attempt at a full edit. I’m trying to get good at this, so any feedback is appreciated. You won’t hurt my feelings. Check it out. Tell me what you think.

What a nice way to start my Saturday, that was a vibe.

I really like that shadow shot, super cool!

Only constructive criticism, a couple tricks could have been framed in the shot a bit better, specifically whatever was goin on at 4 min, that was SICK, but part of it went above the shot.

Great work overall, and your music selection was perfect for the setting!!!

Yo let’s gooo! Video editing is hard and the only way to crush it is to practice. Nice work taking the plunge and this is definitely a good first edit.

For the title card with the title of the video, consider having the actual title of the video set in a larger size than the video and music credit. That will help just set up a strong hierarchy of information. The title, “Passing,” should get the most focus but it’s a bit lost against the other text. Also consider letting that text info stay on the screen a tiny tiny bit longer.

In general, I think you do want to let the tricks be the main substance of the video. Consider a bit less B-roll footage. I’m a huge fan of B-roll and think the walking shots and forest shots add to the vibe you’re trying to get across. I love the fall colors, but the video is a bit long for a yoyo clip video and it seems like the ratio of tricks to B-roll could be tweaked a bit.

I like the slow mo trick footy, I think it could be nice to use that same effect of slowmo on some of the b-roll as well. Might just help tie it all together tighter. The autumn leaves blowing in the wind in slowmo and then trick with the trick clip slipping into slow-mo could be nice.

Again, I just want to say nice work yo! I like clip videos and do think it’s awesome you’re trying to get good at editing. These were just a couple things that came to mind and I think could be worth trying or thinking about. :call_me_hand:

Totally agree. I was frustrated with myself that I didn’t actually check how it looked.

This was definitely a bit of a rush job, and I think it shows. I really just wanted to knock my first one out to get a baseline. Now, I think I’ll be more patient making my next one. This definitely taught me a lot.

I appreciate your feedback! Thank you, genuinely

Excellent work brother!! Henry couldn’t have said it better.

It’s okay I guess, just not enough behind the back reverse Godspeed DNA flow tech AND godslow over the head in the car jumping over the Grand Canyon. You know? I think that would improve it quite a bit.

(Seriously though, this was a good watch. You’re doing great!)

Great video mate, I really enjoy it, if you would like my 2 cents:

For the title pick a little easier font, more minimal and clean it will look much better on the video and keep it not too long.

The tricks can have more and different angles, it doesnt need to be all straight (at least on a video like this) you can change camera angle and then easily film twice or three time the trick and go around the angles.
For the frontal tricks I will put the camera closer, not always there is the need to see the whole body, you can frame the “centre of action” without show the whole body and then do some cuts closer and far, all this will add so much dynamics to the video.

For slow down parts I will do only little bits the ones that look “cool” like slacks or stuff that is nice to see flying around

The lenght of the video can be shorter, use around 3 minutes as a limit, I agree with Henry on that

For the rest great first attempt and I really enjoyed it!

Thank you brother! I really appreciate this. I totally agree with most of what you said.

As for the length, which a couple people have mentioned, I wanted to make a video to this song specifically. And it was important that I got the whole song in there. But, I’ve noted that some people prefer the shorter edits and I’ll consider it when making future ones. I’ll probably make edits of every length, eventually.

Side note: I actually made this video, specifically as a tribute to you, Albertino :joy: I’m not sure why, exactly. I think because of the photo you shared of London looking so drab annd mentioning, a couple times, how you love American fall/halloween. But, after I finished it, I was like, “is this weird if I say this is a tribute to Albertino?”

I, ultimately, decided against putting that information anywhere. I didn’t want people thinking I was trying to get clout off your name and was kind of unsure how you would receive it. I still wanted you to know though.

Mate wth this is so kind that you though about me, for sure so many of the scenarios you all post in the forum help me to make me dream, UK can be beautiful, London is awful lol
As said in the other post the small USA towns are my dream life, a nice house, a little city and then also possibly a winter full of snow. I did enjoy a lot the colour of the videos and the landscape it seems so “clean”.

About mention people in the videos, go for it mate, the yoyo community is the nicest, I will never think you did that for a non existing clout, people in the yoyo world mention each other all the time also in the instagram reels “inspired by and tag the person” as we are all friends and part of a community do everything you feel to make the community stronger mate.
Tbh is veeeery easy to understand if someone does it for clout or not trust me, so don’t worry as you was blessing someone with a nice view of the Autumn, it’s a big gift

Nice this has an early 90s MTV music video vibe to it.

Framing is important. The top of your head should be near the top of the frame as a general rule but because the YoYo is the subject your framing may include space above and to the sides to accommodate tricks.

B roll is neat but less is more. There were shots with bad lighting or your finger coving the camera. Always feel free to cut video. In the end 5 minutes of filming may only have 30 seconds of usable and necessary footage. Also pick how long you want your video early on in the project and try to get into that slot. Like if you are trying to generate a short stick to under 30 seconds of its s truck video 1-2 minutes is generally enough to showcase what you got. Just depends on what you’re trying to convey but feel liberated to cut stuff.

As for editing slow mo is neat. Try to use it to showcase a specific element once. If your doing a tutorial show the full trick in normal speed then show the specific difficult element in slow mo.

Editing around b roll less is more. Try to showcase things coherently and reduce the number of cuts you use where possible unless you’re going for an artistic expression. This is all dependent on intent of the video but my takeaway watching this is you had a nice walk in the woods and occasionally messed with a yoyo.

Overall good work just needs some refinement and decision making around what the goal and takeaways are for a viewer.
