Okay folks. I know I have not been in yo-yo too long. I’ve been practicing all week. Just throwing it and practicing my binding. The binding I’m pretty decent at. I’m trying to get more fluid with it and sometimes the string doesn’t fully wrap around and it leaves extra so I’m working on.
My biggest problem is I have five yo-yos and I can’t throw any of them. Perfect! I’ve never been able to throw any of them with no vibration. No vibe at all. They always have like a little bit of vibe or a lot of vibe and you can smooth it out by taking your fingernail and touching it and it spins perfect. I don’t know if that’s a string issue or a throw issue. Maybe a thicker string can help with that?
I know I’m new and yo-yo’s taking practice but I didn’t think it would be difficult to throw a yo-yo down smooth
I have the same issue with the netrunner, none of my others yoyos i have an issue with. wonder why lol. if i really concentrate and throw light its smooth though. also while playing it goes away so it’s not a big deal
it’s from am imperfect throw and it’s nothing to worry about. at no point in time does a trick depend on a perfectly smooth throw and your throw will smooth out over time. correct tilt after your throw if necessary, otherwise ignore it
I have not really practiced the breakaway yet. I’m just doing forward throws but every yo-yo I have. Six yo-yos and every time I throw forward on any of them there’s vibration on all of them. Sometimes it’s a lot. Sometimes it’s not a lot. I know it’s my technique but man I’ve been practicing for hours everyday. I just want a perfect throw and I can’t figure it out.
So is that the park and I came home and I’m like okay I got to figure this out. I’ve been practicing all week but what I’ve noticed is when I hold the yo-yo in my hand to throw it forward. I move my thumb out of the way and I kind of just hold it in my palm with my three fingers.
But what I’ve noticed is if I hold the yo-yo and I put my thumb on one of the rings and I throw it and release it and using my thumb as a guide to hold it I’m actually getting far better throws very little vibe and actually I threw it a few times and I had zero vibe.
The one thing I’m trying to learn is to do better binding. I want to try doing more smooth binding cuz I’m watching these videos where they throw it down and they bind it but the professionals do it. So fluidly and I’m over here throw it down, wrap the string, pinch it drop and pull up and it’s just so boring.
I need to start watching some videos so I can do like cooler binds so it just doesn’t look so stupid
Yoyo vibe on throws is completely normal and as others have said fully goes down to technique. Even though you can get far smoother throws, don’t expect any throw you so to be dead smooth.
It is near physically impossible for you to expect your hand (a very imprecise tool) to kick-start the spin of an object to 5000-10000 rpm without introducing a small amount of shake.
I fell into the trap when learning yoyoing of trying to perfect every single trick to a professional level as I learnt them. Unfortunately that’s just not how it is.
Don’t obsess over certain elements and absolutely perfecting a trick before moving on. You’ll notice that elements of each trick and general control meshes from every part of yoyoing into another improving not only that trick but your skill as a whole.
As you learn things like the breakaway you’ll often miss the trapeze. Something that extremely bothered me. Instead of focusing on the fact that you missed it and start throwing breakaways one after another for hours on end, focus on when you hit it and try and move onto another trick. Blend all those elements together and learn not only how to do tricks perfectly, but to recover from mistakes when they will inevitably fail.
That is the best way to become a smooth, fluid and “professional” yoyoer in my opinion.
Good advice! I obsessed a little bit too. Now I realize that the missed trapeze is an opportunity for a pinwheel and another shot at it.
@Bznalcapone I’m to the point where I’m trying to learn some more advanced tricks and often I only get through the first element. I’m ok with that because it’s another element that I know and practice. All these elements that you get used to build and build until you start to get better control of the yoyo. You’ll start to link them together and that’s when it’s fun. But…. It all starts with the throw.
Ps. My regens are vibey as hell but it’s still spinning and I can recover.
Once you get it on the string, do you know how to correct the tilt/vibe?
I can’t seem to edit my post with @yoyodoc video. This bind is much easier and looks better than the bind you are trying to do. It’ll take practice of course but is less cumbersome. I hope it helps you!
Dude you were awesome! I just learned that buying from the video and that is so dope. The other way was corny. I kept like getting the string all messed up but this way is actually cool.
I’m not going to lie once I figured out how to do it. It’s my now go to
I don’t know if others have mentioned this yet but just throw a forward throw or bresksway and then you can use the string to stabilize it by rubbing it against the inside edge of the yoyo. This will tell you if it’s a defect or if it’s your technique.
Correct, but when I found that works for me is okay. If you watch everybody throw you hold it in your palm and you hold it with your three front fingers. For some reason I don’t throw properly that way. So what I found is if I use my thumb on one of the rings to hold it, I throw way more stable. I’ve even gotten some really perfect throws out of it.
That new binding way that I was just taught in that video is amazing. I absolutely love it. I had a damn smile on my face bigger than the joker. That way to bind is so much better than the old way or the beginner way.
You should consider grabbing a Butterfly XT next time you are at a target, they are by the puzzles and board games in the toy section typically.
Or if you have a hobby lobby, they carry a YYF whip.
Both are like $5. There’s also a bunch of good choices here on YYE if you wanna internet shop.
That said, you do not need to do responsive. I find it helps me practice keeping my hands on plane, however. Stalls and kickflips and stuff are fun, too
