Tips here too, but may be a lower signal to noise ratio for what you’re looking for.

For me, I am planning to make a wooden fixie this year. My general plan of attack:

  1. Plane board to height.
  2. Use a hole saw with a pilot bit to cut puck and axle hole. Pilot bit may need to go first then be removed.
  3. Use drill press (because it’s what I have. Lathe is better) to put curve on halves. This will mostly be sandpaper for me, but lathe with bits is faster.
  4. Cut axle to length.
  5. Glue in clamps with spacer to set gap.

I know Ed Davidson of Davidson Lathe Craft @DLC has videos on YouTube showing the entire process. I believe Dazzlin’ Dave does as well.

That would be very helpful. This is one area I feel entirely out of my depth.

Well, you can mostly just pick wood and see how it turns out.

What? You didnt like my tutorial post?

I put a lot of thought into that.

I’ve just gone into the workshop and taken photos of wood. I’m going to make the tutorial post later today.
