Are you running a dry bearing in it or lubed? I put a dry one in mine and with a regs string on I still get right at the edge of responsive/ semi- responsive. It has the ever so slightest delay on tug but it’ll still loop fine as well as doing a double trapeze without seizing up. None of my other responsives can hit that double trapeze without biting the string. Mine are B grades from that tricky place. At $15-17 with the VIP bearing.
This one is the same B Grade from the same place. My other Snack was a gift from my Daughter, so that one is as received.
Running dry right now. Standard String didnt quite respond as I liked. So I put a medium thickness on.
My string needs to break in a little more. It seems a little stiff still and will slip the responce sometimes. Im pretty sure once the string breaks in, it will be right where I want it.
If I get impatient I may apply a ever so small amount of lube to the bearing to get a little more response.
This is a fun size yoyo to play with. It may be small in stature, but the weight makes it feel full size.
Playing more 1A Style, but responsive, I have been having a lot of fun with the Hybrid Fulvia half speced.
Have fun
I love my snack I’ve been tempted to get a second at some point. I’ve never thought to toss a half spec in one. Looks like a fun time to me. Temptation to visit that tricky place… must resist.
Like all the other Enablers in this thread…
$15 for a B Grade…
Shims and bearing you already have…
2 of us have already done it… It must be OK.
Honestly, I think it is a hell of a deal. Undersized quality Modern Responsive.
Throw a Origen in the cart if you dont have one yet.
Have Fun
I have an Origen but a second so I can make my first a dedicated responsive 5a might be a thing…. This is how all my money goes away.
I don’t have any sort of vast repertoire of tricks but what I’ve been trying my hand at is more 1a type play. And the Snack is so darn fun at this. Also the smaller size is helping my aim.
@Captrogers there’s always some sort of scenario where justification may be found.
So I revisited flowing pads with Ultra Grey. Just wow. My Pop Art w 3mm bearing is much nicer to play than with pads. And the Bumblebee…let’s talk Bumblebee. Getting that wide pad with the dry 3mm A bearing and thick string made it reliably semi responsive. 2 drops of thick lube on the bearing and magic happened. Not even kidding. I found myself having fun with it…finally. I can imagine that running a bearing blank would also be amazing. In either of these actually.
Welp I guess I need to throw some silicone on the bumblebee then my biggest complaint with the blank is that the response sticker is unpleasant. Don’t know how else to describe it just feels like plastic rubbing on the string I don’t like it. Otherwise very fun to throw. Maybe tossing silicone on the thing is the magic I’m missing.
That’s exactly why I stated earlier that the sticker felt “jank”.
The ultra grey is something else. I got several low spots in it trying to get it to be level across that wide gap and I could imagine that the closer to flat and level you could get it the more responsive it would be with the dry bearing. But quite actually I feel like the rim weight of the rings very effectively negates any slowing of the bearing due to the thick lube and it just hits that sweet spot. I literally could not believe that I kept wanting to throw it. I’m still wanting to throw it. If you haven’t put a much thicker string on it you should give that a try if you have one. It speeds up the acceleration of the yo-yo in an amazing way. The average sized string is like trying to take off in your car while in 3rd gear. It goes but it’s sluggish. The thick string is like switching to first gear. It sounds crazy but try it and you’ll see.
Been waiting for this update. Saw the Bee in the Permatex Grey thread.
I did get some Silicone and Grey. Just need to sit down and do it now.
Is the 3mm A bearing narrower than the stock A bearing?
Yes. The standard A bearing is 4mm. These are the only 3mm A bearings I’ve been able to find. They are amazing though and they also come in steel if ceramic is not your thing.
Now leave me alone!! I’m enjoying my Bumblebee!!!
I’ll note if you try to go any smaller like a 2mm bearing you have to grind down the bearing post so 3mm is where it’s at. The bearing blank sort of sits on top of the post making the gap closer to 2.5mm ish which seems to just fit.
I’ll need to message you where you got those 3mm a bearings
I got them from Fast Eddie. He sells RC and model bearings. It’s the only place I’ve found any 3mm. MR105 5x10x3 in steel first then ceramic. A few dollars difference.
To run these 3mm bearings I did need to file my posts a tad.
I am assuming from our other projects, we can shim and not file?
Probably. I see myself ordering a bunch of shims and odd sized bearings in the near future and tinkering when I get home.
I see no reason that shims wouldn’t work. I wanted the gap as narrow as possible so I chose to file. The post is smaller than the shims that were used for the C bearing so a shim with a 10mm inside diameter would be needed. Here’s the gap with no shims. It plays so nice.
I know this topic is probably done but wanted to finish my thought on the bumblebee tangent we went in for a bit and add an al2000 to the mix.
I took the plastic response stickers off the bumblebee as I don’t like them and gave them to the al2000 for now. I’ll eventually buy new turbo discs but those will have to do.
For the bumblebee I put flowable silicone in.
Now to let things dry and I’ll give it all a test.
Admittedly the al2000 plays just fine with a wood axle alone but I wanted to try the plastic sleeve and that needs response to be affective.
It’s never done as long as someone has something to add
