How far are you willing to travel for a club or yo-yo meet?

Wondering how long people are willing to travel for clubs and meets? Just think if people see what others do for travel they might be more inclined to do so themselves.

  • less than 1 Hour
  • between 1-2 hours

Personally i drive between an hour and hour and a half and pay some tolls to attend the clubs in my area and i think its super well worth it and im fairly lucky to have 2 great clubs that close

I would drive an hour or so. The closest clubs to me are like 3 hours though, so that ain’t happening. I did find a flow arts club in the past, but I was the only yoyo guy. It was kinda of a college club as well and I’m a little older than that.

I went to Virginia States in 2014 and rode a Megabus 24 hours to get to Alex Curfmans house. Finished 26th place out of 26th so it was worth it  hahhaha

I’m sure everyone is traveling at least an hour or two to go to meets etc.

Yeah 3 hours is kind of hard especially that ride home always feels longer haha!

I hope it all works out and you make it! for me its super worth the trip just meeting other people with similar interest plus learning is so much easier in person imo

I’ve been known to drive 6 hours to get a burger. Given the time and money I’d drive to Europe if possible. I love a good road trip. :+1::yo-yo::beers:

While I was living in Sardinia I had to take a plane to go in the italian peninsula for yoyo meeting, at some point I just started to take the plane when was cheap and pass the weekend in the city of the meeting, best time ever honestly. The only boring part of the travel is that I used to can’t wait to arrive to play and meet the people that was in the Italian forum, good memories

8 years ago I always rode my folding bike every weekend to attend a yoyo clubmeet in my local area even its raining coz I can’t afford paying a public transport at that time and if I get a flat tire during my travel, I’m heavily relied on free air pumps in nearest gas stations like shell or caltex. The distance between from my house to our meetup location was around 30 kilometers and it took like close to 2 hours of pedaling but overall it was worth it and we hangout from 2pm to 10pm or sometimes 5am if we stayed on a convenient store.

Those are good ol times.

Mine was same experience but only 1/5 of distance compared to yours so mad respect for the effort .
We hang out from 10AM to around 3-4PM then we change location to the local store called YoYoAccessory in local Ho Chi Minh city area and grab some local street food. After all the chattin, we continue with other activities like skateboarding, fixed gear, pickup futbol and even billiard lol.

Man I wish we had a local yoyo store like yours in vietnam to hang out but at that time we have 711, mcdonalds or inside the mall if one of the guards tried to kick us out coz we might potentially damage their property lol.

In terms of new yoyo releases we only have limited access to try unless one of our yoyo friends brought one from japan or even on rare occasions most notable players like koichiro ueta (THP), maya nakamura (Former Duncan Crew), ernest kahn (CLYW) and hiro koba (kitty string) visit on our clubmeet at one point and we got a chance to try their yoyos sometimes the unrealesed ones.

Right now things are changing and some of us are busy on 9-5 jobs and others have their own family.

Totally understand man, yoyos we bought back then is really expensive because of imported tax and fees which makes it 1.5-2 times the retail. This is why the best we have is YYF and Audley, later on with C3, things get better.
Also, we really don’t have a place back then, most of the time we go to public places like City Post Office or the park and move to other location if we get complaint. First yoyo boom is 2010 so we are quite new that we don’t have many well known name + I quit hanging out around 2014, and study abroad from 2015 till now so there might be things I missed. Some players I know back then are pursuing other hobby/career in Rap music, fashion, motorbike, etc and most of them are dealing with life too so to me I would call it a good memory and hopefully one day I can meet with my old friends and gather people to have a chat.

At this time with my current level of dedication, I’d drive 30 mins.

I would walk about 38 feet if necessary, to get to a yo-yo meet.

But only on a day where the temp is approx. 72 degrees… clear skies… slightly cool onshore breeze… at about 50 percent humidity.

Must have been a good burger! Additionally that was one common them in the yo-yo based podcasts I’ve noticed most of the best stories come from road-trips or contest trips

@tylerpan and @p44company i love these stories hearing that extra effort shows how much it means to y’all

You lucky enough for anything that close?

Not that I’m aware of lol.

I appreciate it! I forgot to realize I’ve been doing this bike thing until mid 2019
