I made a pledge to myself ‘not’ buy a yo-yo every single day.
On an average 30 month…… that’s (duh) 30 yo-yos!
Must Cut Down….. no other option.
So…..I cut down to 15 yo-yos a month.
….every month I reach that Goal, I reward myself with a few ‘Goal Achieved Bonus’ yo-yos. Which still keeps me under my Per Month Max. It seems to be a most excellent Self Policing System.
I have to stop myself and put limits on how many I buy - it’s absolutely addicting to try out so many. Each one is so unique and fun - crap now I want to buy another
I suffer from BAD, Butterfly Acquisition Disorder.
IMO, the only cure is to replace the habit in the cue, habit, reward cycle. Get the urge and Wanna check the webs or log on to buy a new throw (cue)? Just load up a tutorial or simply pick up a Yoyo and practice instead (habit)…But the struggle is real…
I would like encourage you to if you can, join a club. That give you the opportunity to try many different throws and that can help scratch the itch. Same with going to contests, it gives people the opportunity to share and that helps as well. Developing friendships with people helps you to even borrow/ trade for a short time.
Something I’ve started to try is different string lengths on yo-yo’s I don’t throw as much. I listened to a kill your yoyo podcast where Ross interviewed Coffin and Coffin recommended this.
Or try the ole, once I learn this trick I earn my new throw-trick! Then a week later decide you’ve put enough time in regardless so you still deserve it.
I just got the h5 leaf and I can say it’s a dope throw, because of the way it’s constructed it’s not noisy like other hybrid throws are. Because of it being hybrid and the shape it’s super agile and quicker than you’d expect for the size.
You speak from my heart. I’ve wanted to meet other yoyo people for a long time, but here in Hamburg where I live, I haven’t found any club or group online. There used to be a website, but it’s not online anymore.
I even made a Reddit post a week ago, asking if anyone wants to start a Hamburg group – but sadly, no one replied.
The Podcast looks interesting, i will check it out, thanks.
