Hatrick vs Hatrick 2?

I see a lot of love for the Hatrick. Anyone played both and have opinions?

Own multiples of both (and even bought an OG Hatrick the day it was released in 2009!) and can tell you that the difference comes down to what you’re looking to get out of throwing. Do you want a performant organic that can hold its own in multiple aspects (stability, spin power/time specifically) against non-organic performance oriented throws? Or do you want a good example of what a boutique undersized yoyo was ~15 years ago? If it’s the first one, get the Hatrick 2. It’s a bigger, wider, and it has inner bimetal rings that increase its power and stability over the original Hatrick QUITE a bit. The Hatrick 2 is also mid size, compared to the Hatrick which is decidedly undersized. If you want a smaller, fun, more pocketable yoyo made in the US, go for the original Hatrick. It’s a yoyo near and dear to my heart, since it was my first “big” yoyo purchase back in the day, and nothing can top the nostalgia factor, but the Hatrick 2 is for sure a “better” yoyo. I would even go as far to say that it’s the best mid size organic yoyo made to date, period - and trust me, I own enough organics to know lol. It’s also probably cheaper to pick one up on the BST than the original as well. And the only other thing I can think of off the top of my head rn is that the OG feels a lot denser, while the 2 has much better and equal feeling weight distribution. Here’s some quick comparison pics for ya… (Hatrick 2 on left, OG on right)

If you want a taste of the original, consider the freehand mini. Similar specs and feel in my opinion, but with an A bearing (their might be a C variant.). Also consider the dressel designs 5050, they took a lot of inspiration from the Hatrick. It’s a lot wider (10mm wider), but the soul of the Hatrick is there.

I’ve been stuck in my ways with just throwing that nostalgia, but I’m opening up to modern performance throws. I’m glad, things have come a long way. Buying in stock throws also supports retailers and manufacturers(something I need to do more of, I’m a BST junkie.)

Consider grabbing a KLR here at yoyoexpert to get that General yo feel, it’s 7075 and dirt cheap, and you’d be supporting a great couple guys, Ernie and Andre.

Edit: Freehand mini is 52mm, OG Hatrick is 50mm, but when I played one it brought forth feelings of the OG Hatrick

Thanks @SR1 for the fine explanation! Hatrick 2 is 15% larger with thinner walls to allow 2x11 gr stainless steel rings take the majority of the rim weight
