Get One’s. I wouldn’t recommend a Velocity.
The green ones!? AWESOME!
I would also get something with a “brain” just to be safe. Don’t want the 5 year old to feel left out if he can’t get it.

I find that the velocity is very hard to get responsive simply because you must turn the knobs to just the right spot. And you can’t remove it’s bearing. Get a flipside or something.
Response is easy to find. you turn it towards EASY.
The velocity isn’t easy medium hard, it has 50 different response levels, about three of which are easily tug responsive while still sleeping.
I think I just quoted myself… What did I do?

I suggest the yoyofactory one
YYF One, was my first pick, and got me hooked!
YYF One
Get One’s.
I also think the ONE is perfect for the job. 8) I bought one for my brother to begin and it’s a durable, easy to learn yoyo.
Based on the ages I would go with the YYF velocity. The 5 year old will have the most problems though just due to age. I recommend against the clutch yoyos because after you can disengage the clutch via a hard enough throw, you’re done with those. Also you can tug back without so hard of a throw.
I personally prefer the Classic but with having to replace parts, they are better for older kids. The One is too darn light for beginners.
Maybe a ONE for the older and a Spinstar or FAST201 for the younger? The Slimstar And FAST are practically the same.
