Have a question. Is anybody or did anybody pick up that new Gentry Stein Olympus yo-yo? Apparently it took him about a year to create it and it has double metal and it sleeps for about 12 minutes. I found a video on it but it seems to be sold out everywhere
I was wondering if anybody got their hands on one and what you think about it. I want to add one competition yo-yo to my stack.
And it just won Nat’s, but the winner could have won it with the Ring Bearer. there is nothing undersized about it. It was only sold direct from Gentry’s website and since it sold so fast he claimed that there will be more to come

I have been wondering, even as a Gentry stan, if this new phase of giving players their own sites and branding is a direct result of the previous drama.
I’ve done a little research on the drama and I get it. There were some things that happened but me personally I don’t follow drama. I don’t deal with drama. I don’t watch news. I don’t watch TV. I don’t let anything bother me.
I’m really only here to buy good yo-yos that’s it. I was just kind of hoping that maybe somebody bought the Gentry Stein new design and how it is cuz it looks like a really unique design with double rings. He’s a great player no matter what happened and yo-yo factory. I like the way he plays.

Getting used to a really wide yoyo like this can take a little getting used to, but they’re very fun.
I should add that I’ve played with both but I don’t own either.
You should take any talk of spin time with a grain of salt because no yoyo is going to spin for 12 minutes unless you throw hard and then line it up perfectly and sit there watching it. And most modern yoyos easily get 8+ minutes, and it’s mostly due to throwing technique and bearing cleanliness.
Kinda off topic, but I was surprised that the design has a large hollow section behind the stainless steel (SS) rim. I was looking forward to getting one until he told in the video the production material had been changed to 6061 unlike the prototype version 7075
The og proto was 6061, he let me try it at cal states. Gentry has long been an advocate for 6061 over 7075 as he likes the way it plays better, he’s been this way since I’ve know him since 2017. We talked in length then about the design and what his goal was for the Yoyo. I was super impressed with the proto and will pick up a production run now they restock. I do wish the price was a little more affordable but I guess that’s just machining costs these days for a Yoyo like this and import fees probably.
That would explain why it felt a little floaty to me. And tbh for a wide yoyo it is fairly comfy. I just dont like it cause of the width
Is this the same concept that YYF used before, e.g on the Pragma?
I actually prefer 6061 myself these days, at least over 7075. What someone people feel as “crispness” i find kind of sharp and prefer the smoother feeling of 6061 over that.
It’s for sure the best yoyo of this style that I’ve tried. (Extra wide, slightly small diameter, modern competitive bimetal yoyo.)
Weight distribution feels great. Weight placement wise, it’s one of my favorite bimetals.
Since you’re looking for a modern competitive yoyo, I think it’s a fantastic option. If a competitive bend or horizontal play is your focus, I haven’t tried anything better.
That said, it wouldn’t be my first choice for an everyday all around yoyo, but for what you’re looking for, it’s A+ imo.
Pragma? Maybe you mean the Singularity. That’s the only one I remember having a slightly smaller hollow rim, from what I can recall back in 2018 when YYF posted it on their IG.

Pragma was also billed as having hollow rim (at least by a certain retailer in Japan) but I never saw a diagram of how it was put together.

This is a special kind of bimetal design, that has incorporated some “air space” into the area between the body and the stainless steel rim. Another unusual choice is the rather heavy weight of 66 grams, which gives even more power to the bimetal design. It feels like the design of the Singularity has been pushed to its limit with the Pragma, and it’s an extreme model that’s a true marvel.
Oh, I see. I just learned something new about the Pragma. I didn’t know they still incorporated it into Izuru’s second signature.
I own all 3 colorways of the Pragma 7075 released in 2023, an Rewind Japan has a recent restock of the 6061 editions. The yoyo is still a good throw an has its cult like following with one of Japan’s most respected player and Rewind staff members.
Have you ever tried or owned a Pneuma by any chance? The bimetal construction is interesting almost similar to the Pharaoh+
Yes I bought one at Nationals and it is really nice. Plays smooth and is not overly wide at 58 mm. It binds when I want it to and does what I tell it to and it should for 160 bucks. I would recommend it
