Genesis Blue/Black Rain Review

I just got it on Christmas, and am now posting a review, obviously. Anyways, here we go!  ;D

Appearance: The anno is amazing in my view. There is different shades of blue, Going from black to metallic blue, and some purple as well, almost the color of spilled ink. It is splashed together, making this marbled pattern… not really a rain, but almost a camoflauge pattern, except with blue hues. On the outer edge of the rim are the words Yoyofactory Genesis. It is h-shaped.

Specs: Taken from here:
Diameter:56 mm
Width:43 mm
Response System:Flowable Silicone
Weight:67 grams
Bearing Size: Size C (SPEC Bearing)
Beadblasted

The silicone came almost flawless, except for a pinprick hole in it. The axle, however, is a little worrisome to me. At a certain point during the screwing process, there is a really high pitched squeak of metal on metal, like a steel rat being crushed by a train.

Play: First off, the spin. It spins very long, around 1.5 times as long as my M1, which I believe, is due to it’s shape. Very stable, a bit slower on play, but it can still play fast, it’s just heavier and needs a bit more force to move. The wide gap is perfect for tricks, and the yoyo is pretty good all around. I only play 1a though, so I have no idea about how it does in other styles. For grinding, I have no experience with special surface, only annodized and metal. It grinds very smooth, and soft, not the hard metal you would expect. It more of floats on your arm than grinds.

It fits very well in my hand, despite some people saying it doesn’t. The shape is actually very comfortable in hand, a bit more comfortable then others, since I can fit one finger between the two rims, and two others on the rim. Very snug hold.

Thoughts: If you want a stabler yoyo, with a bit more spin, then you can consider an H-shaped yoyo like this. With a nice surface, good shape, and amazing colors, there’s no reason not to buy it. Should work in 5a as well, although I never did 5a with it. In my opinion, the only things wrong with it is the squeaky axle, and maybe it’s a millimeter too large for me. A millimeter smaller, and it would be perfect, although the size right now is just about perfect.

Edit: I had the large bearing version, and for some reason, there are no other words other than yoyofactory genesis, although pictures of it here: http://shop.yoyoexpert.com/product/87/YYF-Genesis-135 include the words: Directed by Miguel Correa.

the same thing is wrong with my red genesis

i think since so many pros are using it, it has become a yoyo like the 888 or superstar tons of people use it but only guy gets a signature series of it

? I do not comprehend… do you mean the writing on it?

The reason it squeaks when you close it, is because the bearing seat is super tight. It’s a good thing.

Oh… is it okay to add like wd-40 or something to help the squeak? Or will that damage it…

ummmm, no. don’t use wd-40, the squeek is good. it is showing that there is a lot of friction inside the yoyo keeping it together, and without that friction the yoyo would come appart. needless to say, if its not squeeking that doesnt mean that it wont stay together, just that squeeking is good.

Agreed

Is it normal if a 10 ball and YYJ bearing doesn’t fit into it?

no, a yyj size C bearing and a 10 ball should fit into it

Hmmm… am I in trouble? Won’t fit in… 10 ball just gets stuck in it, non axle side tighter. I can get 10 ball like 1/2mm down, but then it gets stuck, and I’m afraid to use anything other than finger power…

That is normal, you should have to give it a little force to get it in/out, but it will get better after a while.

The squeak from opening my Dv888 scared the crap out of me! I thougt it was the axle. nice to know its not bad

same with me
