I hear ya. It just happens. Some days are horrible. Sometimes I have so much stuff on my mind or troubling me I can’t get straight throws or I miss strings and it’s like “why am I bothering with these kiddy toys? It’s sooooo stupid!” Then again, I sometimes think that on good throwing days too…
Videos that “demonstrate” a new yoyo aren’t really demos of the yoyo, but demos of the player. Skilled players can make any yoyo look cool and performant. The only thing I ever take away from such videos are, “That guy is really good.” I never come away with any sense of what it would feel like to play the yoyo myself. So while I realize that these videos are essential to marketing yoyos, I still find it strange that nobody acknowledges how they aren’t really informing the viewer about the yoyo itself (apart from what it looks like). At most they are informing the viewer how skilled the demonstrator is.
In terms of promo videos, totally agree. I see a lot more value in someone actually doing well with the yoyo in a competition. If a player can’t be bothered to even film a video with his new signature, much less actually compete with it, it looks kinda bad(in my opinion).
Although I have a very modest yoyo collection I recently realised I still have more than I really need so have sold a few off and now I have less than 20. Still more than I need but it certainly feels better!
I really need to reduce my collection, I have more than I need. I just love YoYos!
It seems as though the BST has positively exploded with LF (Looking For) requests lately. Is this perhaps related to people having lots of extra time on their hands these days to contemplate all the hard-to-find yoyos that are missing from their collections?
It is also interesting to me, from a statistical point of view, how few LFers are LFing anything I have. The converse is also largely true (none of the FT/FSers out there are FT/FSing anything I’m interested in). This would suggest there is very little overlap between my taste in yoyos and everyone else’s. Another major factor may be that none of my yoyos are very old, and new models don’t often attract the collectors out in BST-space.
People are always like, “LOOKING FOR AN 07 888/YWET/AR-T 420/LATEST G-SQUARED/SUPER RARE OD COLORWAY” lol.
Confession: I have lost the desire to buy new yoyos as I feel the amount of yoyos I already have offer me a huge variety of shapes, specs.
Preach bro!
im open to taking some off of ur hands… for free lol
I just want to say I enjoy all the new words here.
I was thinking about this recently.
1998-2004 was figuring out bearing yoyos
2004-2008 was organics
2009-2014 was competition oriented throws
2015-2020 re-engineered designs
Sorry for the damage. I feel bad for laughing but not really I guess. It takes a big man to post their mistakes.
Yeah, that was cringe-worthy. I generally try not to tempt fate, as I know the worst will happen when I do. Have to assume that 5A plus any surface but grass or carpet will 100% result in a chewed up throw.
Nah don’t be sorry my dudes.
The reason I posted this was to show how damaged a yoyo can get on a full month of constant 5A play (for anyone curious). The damage looks by far worse than what it actually is. The yoyo is 8/10 smooth. A metal yoyo will actually take an unmeasurable amount of abuse before it really stops working.
This is what happens when you actually play with yoyos. It’s only a big deal if you are playing with a collector’s piece, which still happens sometimes. I jammed my Hotdiggity quite a few times this month, until I realized my sparked raw Vayder (runner up SF PLSTC actually) played like a demon at 5A. Both yoyos still smooth.
I verbally abuse a lot of my yoyos and it hasn’t added much vibe which is a big relief.
lol i imagine shouting at ur yoyos “why dont u spin longer! be more stable”
Well, not really much lately but in 2016 I swung and smashed a Loop 360 and Duncan Speed Beetle on the ground outside and on the floor of my apartment. That was at the height of my learning to loop days.
