Maybe right next to a cliff up in the mountains!
so the yoyos can fall and get dinged!
for those of you with bigger fingers, do you find the fingerspin hub is too big? too small?
Yoyo pyramid? Or string them all to your finger at the same time. Also +1 to natural lighting.
Sometimes yoyo is most enjoyable when you keep things relatively simple. I am slow at learning new tricks and sometimes I feel a little burnt out just with learning in and of itself. At times like this I like to just refine what I already know or just take satisfaction doing binds and regens.
I donât have any flowable silicone so am currently just working on wearing down the Snow Tires on my Arctic Circle through play. Its fun!
This is how I yoyo 90% of the time. Just chill, do any trick I want to do, and flow with it. I only learn new stuff when I get bored, and then I step up my game and everything gets fresh again. Ill never get to pro level with this attitude, but I didnât pick up a yoyo again for that purpose and I just jam with it cause it is fun.
When you have two yoyos that are the same, one old and dinged, one new. But you still use the old one more cause your used to it. Anyone feel me?
I do. Doesnt have to be dinged, but just something youve had for a while. Something with history. Helps give it some meaning and attachment.
Thought: if we all gave away half of our collection, to those that have no yoyos, how many more people would have yoyos?
I have 3 Top Decks but only one has dings. I take that everywhere and consider the other 2 my spares. Sounds odd but no yoyo company is gonna be around forever and what is easily obtainable today may be hard to get in 5 years.
Yeah, I gotta Random Yoyo ThoughtâŚ
I just put a new Markmont Blue Eyed White Dragon string on my Top Deck. I love it like crazy but itâs pretty tight (not sure if that is the right word) and itâs a little rough / textured which is great. The problem is the slipknot which gets really locked in and extremely difficult to loosen up. This bugs me a lot because I love the string. I canât just keep making another slip knot every time I am able to get it off my finger. Is there a solution?
Thatâs funny you mention the knot. I have the opposite issue with Airetic strings, more the standard size than the thin though. The slip knot comes loose very easily on my finger when I play so it slips down my finger. I like the string just below my middle knuckle but the string tends to slip down to just above the knuckle near the tip⌠drives me crazy.

I have that same problem with nylon string. The slipknot slides around my finger or comes loose. I can deal with it for a minute or two but it gets uncomfortable and I donât feel I am totally in control. I am hoping someone that uses the Markmont Blue Eyed White Dragon string had some tips. I was thinking of rubbing the portion of the end of the string as well as the slipknot portion on a dry bar of soap but eh⌠I feel like a newb even bringing any of this up.
Airetic sells a rosin puck that you would rub on your slipknot to fix this issue. Theyre pretty cheap and last a while. I havenât used it as I donât have this problem much with mine but others swear by it
Yup I can confirm that the small tin of grip (Rosin) works really well with Airetic strings.
Sorts it right out and my tin looks like itâs never been used I expect this tin to last as long as your bottle of thin lube lasts
I live in a high mountain desert environment, so our humidity is always very low. I have trouble with string being slippery on my finger, even bulk poly can be slippery when its new.
The airetic rosin is good, but its pretty hard which makes it slower to apply. I also use Mr. Zogs Sex Wax for Drummers, its much softer than the rosin, easier to apply and works very well. The wax leaves a bit of gummy residue on the string, I just work it into the string really well and then wipe the rest off with a cloth. This treatment lasts a long time. Mr Zogs is probably available overseas for those not in the USA.
With the denser Markmont strings I have trouble getting the rosin to actually penetrate intro the fibers and it rubs off kinda quickly. The wax gets in there better and requires a lot less effort. The other benefit I get from Zogs is it doesnât dry my skin out like the rosin tends to.
Iâve also heard of people melting beeswax and mixing with a bit of vegetable oil. Then pour the mixture into an ice cube try or whatever mold you want to use and letting it cool. This supposed to work well but I havenât tried it. Iâm not sure of the right wax/oil proportions to use, it may take a little trial and error to get the wax to the consistency you like.
A friend of mine from Mexico says to use some beeswax. I having tried it yet but sounds interesting.
Sometimes practicing a bind until you really get a feeling for the minutiae of various different yoyos is so satisfying! Guy Wright bind is something I have been going over again and again, on some yoyos it is easier than others but once you understand exactly what is happening it feels so so good! Hail flat bearings!
