General Yoyo Thoughts

Yeah I gave it a day, not digging it. Lol. I sometimes forget how strong of a presence haters have on the internet.

We’re already tossing toss? I’ve only gotten to toss out toss a few times. I feel like if we toss the idea around a bit more, it’ll grow on us. Don’t toss the baby out with the bathwater.

toss.

I dunno maybe I’m going to start calling the activity of yoyoing ā€œhurlā€ or ā€œhurlingā€. ā€œI’m gonna hurlā€ or ā€œI feel like hurlingā€ has a certain ring to it. Imagine people’s relief when say that, and then pull your wanker out and start hurling, instead of doing what they thought you were about to do.

When you’re in that awkward situation where someone goes to shake your hand while you have a yoyo attached to it, asert dominance by insisting on a fist bump instead.

I forgot all my tosses at the house so I won’t be hurling at work. I need to toss a toss in my locker so I can hurl on slow days.

Hi guys I have a confession to make:

My name is Durfee and I’m a Shutterholic.

After a discussion on a yoyo discord channel-

I’ve been yoyoing for many years now. I don’t even remember how many it’s been so long.

I changed my pads more times in the first year of yoyoing than all the other years combined because youtube/ect made me think I should. So much wasted silicone. I’m sure I’m not the only person who did that and realized what a waste it was.

I don’t mean to scare you, but, my name is French, I’ve never owned a Shutter, but, I do own a B-grade Shu-ta and enjoy it very much.

The only time I’ve had to legit change my pads was when I was sponsored and using exclusively a single yoyo for over 5 - 6 months, with very extensive use.

Other than that situation, changing pads is the most sporadic procedure in this hobby ever.

Edit: Oh. And also only if the pads on a yoyo i get really, truly suck, and that has only happened once with a few YoyoEmpire throws I’ve had. Man, love YYE but their stock white pads suck in an incredible way.

I’ve changed pads on 2 yoyos in like 5 years. Both purchased well used from sponsored players.

I changed pads on my replay pro cause they suddenly popped out while spinning haha. I also changed them on my Shutter WA because the ones that it came stock were way too grippy for my taste

I’ve legit worn out two sets of pads, and that was in the first 6-9 months of starting yoyoing again. Every other time I changed pads was because I didn’t know any better and, more recently, because I didn’t like the pads on the yo-yo. I’ve changed I think two sets of pads in the last year, maybe 3. None for wear. My pads just don’t wear down very fast anymore—I assume because my binds are much less slippy. Not sure if that’s technique or the strings I use now.

Edit: not knowing any better includes getting lube on my pads which makes them expand and pop out.

General yoyo thought:

Play this on .5 speed.

I’ve been intentionally only practicing the same ~10 tricks for the past year or so with the goal of being able to know them so well that I can execute them with the same degree of control Tyler expresses here in this video. Absolutly graceful control over yoyo, string and body.

I can tap into it briefly during longer sessions, and it feels so dope

Yes! In the early days I definitely felt that a lot of my preferences, thoughts and opinions were formed around those who I watched on youtube. I have only changed pads twice, once on a responsive yoyo where they stock ones lost their stick and came loose and the other time on a Magic Yoyo N01 (not because the stock ones had anything wrong I just wanted some which responded better).

New players a quick tip: Reponse pads and fancy bearings are nowhere near as important as people make out!
