I still have too many yoyos and I’m giving one more away. As you can probably guess based on the title, the give away this time is for a G-Squared Nebula Decade.
The Decade is one of the best undersized yoyos available, and Nebula is one of the most beautiful anodization schemes around. Truly functional art. The Decade was only run one time, and happens to be based around the very first yoyo G2 ever put out 10 years ago. It’s a really special yoyo and while I ended up with two, I don’t need both.
2013 was a very formative year for me. I was producing music under two different names, doing two completely different styles. The music I was making for my solo project was techno, and my other project was a duo more house/tech-house stuff at the time. I was unhappy making tech-house, but felt committed to that duo project so I wasn’t making much techno. After a while of that struggle, I was very burnt out and not making music for either project. I ended up at EDC 2013, after many years of not going. To put it short, that year had Richie Hawtin Presents Enter on Friday, Carl Cox and Friends on Saturday, and Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels event on Sunday. I danced at the same stage, in teh same spot the whole weekend, completely engaged in the techno music and came out a new producer. I quit my duo project with my best friend, and immediately dove back into techno. Him and I still make music and throw events together, but that event was really pivotal for me.
The yoyo is minty and absolutely glass smooth. Comes with all original packaging, an extra pack of Diamond Blend and a G2 sticker.
I would love for this to get into the hands of a member of this community who doesn’t have a G2, but anyone can enter.
Comment your favorite memory from a decade ago to enter. Winner will be chosen Friday 10/6/23. I’ll be reading the entries and picking myself this time. This will not be a random entry.
Brandon really out here gatekeeping elementary schoolers /s. My favorite memory from a decade ago was probably getting into yugioh and picking up packs now and then from target
I guess my favorite memory from a decade ago was when I turned 30 and my wife threw me an awesome birthday party at my favorite restaurant. Tons of friends showed up, the food was great, it was a beautiful summer evening on the patio.
Crazy to think about it now, but almost exactly one decade ago I made the decision to leave my life in Minnesota to move to Florida. Very soon after, met the person I would marry. We would then have a beautiful marriage, home, & 3 healthy children. I’ve never made a better decision in my life and I am the happiest I’ve ever been!
My favorite memory from a decade ago around this time is driving up to Cheyenne Wyoming on my off hour of school, to buy some huge a$! fireworks (that are definitely not legal in Colorado) for some buddies of mine to light off across the street during halftime of our Homecoming football game. They successfully lit them off and got away before anyone knew. The streakers (definitely not me and wasn’t planned lol) however were not so successful and got tazed at about the 30 yard line
A decade ago i turned 50 and was abit sad coz , you know , 50 years passed and stuff. Had no idea that 10 of best years in my life is before me. My kids got married , have one grandson, 35 years of marriage anniversary, and surprisingly i started to learn how to throw a yoyo ( like 6 months ago). Wait , what does throwing yoyo have to do with what happened a decade ago You may ask ? Nothing really , but the fact that i didnt dicover Yoyos a decade ago may be the only thing i regret
So almost exactly a decade ago at the end of December my second son, Mason was born and we had not planned it but was very happy about him and i remember it being pretty cold that year and i had to walk to hospital everyday for a month because he had to stay for, well, a little over a month before he could come home. Now whats funny about this and me sharing this with you all is that it was Mason at the beginning of this year that got interested in yoyos and i didnt know about the yoyo community, i just thought it was a silly toy that went up and down and was fun to fidget with and of course since he was into it i got into it, and i quickly fell in love with it. And i could say that all those years ago i had started back down the wrong path in life and Mason came along and opened my eyes back up and it helped me change that and now i wasnt really heading down the wrong path but was just kind of stuck in between the motions of life and work and the everyday hustle and bustle and i wasnt feeling down but i wasnt feeling great either and once again because of Mason, bringing yoyoing into our lives, opened my eyes back up and helped me get unstuck from that repetitive motion of doing everything that needs to be done but doing nothing that wants to be done.
I spent most of 2013 in the desert on my first deployment. When you spend too much time with the same people, you’re bound to clash at some point. My bunkmate happened to be my roommate stateside as well adding to that tension.
One morning after spending several months eating mostly MREs, I was farting up a storm before work. Eventually my bunkmate got annoyed and sprayed me in the face with febreze. I of course could not let that stand and sprayed him right back with my febreze. This started a massive war. We each told the other to stop, but neither of us would be the bigger man. It ended up going on until both of our bottles of febreze were empty.
At this point we were both pissed and didn’t speak to each other as we had to rush to get ready for work. We walked in silence to our bus and sat several seats away from each other. Neither of us said a word the whole 30 min bus ride. We were both obviously still fuming.
When we made it to work one of the other guys walked passed us as he was getting off of the bus. He paused, turned around and said “You guys smell really good today!” Then, he continued to exit the bus. My bunkmate and I looked at each other and immediately burst out in laughter. That was the end of our little feud. Maybe it wasn’t the best time, but it always makes me laugh when I think about it.
Yet another act of awesomeness!!! As a winner in the last giveaway I won’t clog the works on this one. But for all who enter…remember…dreams really can come true!!!
Great hearing about your musical journey! Can you link to some of your music? I’d love to give it a listen.
For me 2012 was that year. I was living at my parents for a few years after graduating from music school. I had a job teaching guitar lessons at the local music shop and was playing in a “dad rock” band at some local bars, but overall was totally bummin it. March 2012 I landed a gig , with some great musicians, that could actually pay the bills. That gave me the funds to move out of my parent’s house, pay off student loans and get a one-bedroom apartment with my then girlfriend, now wife.
Fast forward over a DECADE…Got a wife, 2 kids, 1 house, 14 guitars, 3 dozen yoyos and 1,000+ little toy cars scattered all over the floor. Life is alright.

PS. Don’t pick me, I already have some G2 yoyo’s. They are amazing and everyone should have one (at least!)
Thanks a ton for sharing, Joe!! Love the participation of with no entry <3.
Thats so awesome that you were able to land a gig able to sustain yourself through music. Not many people are able to do that and build a life and family. Congratulations on the musical success!
Music from the duo (we still make music together, but haven’t released in a few years)
Music from my solo project (havent made music here in a few years now)
So admittedly this isn’t quite a decade ago, but close, and is by far the only interesting thing I’ve done, especially around that time lol.
I think it was fall 2014, and Mythbusters were getting ready to film their final season with Adam and Jamie (although they hadn’t announced that it would be yet) and on twitter I happened to see a call for volunteers for an episode. I’m in Maine so I never imagined that I would be picked or could even get to San Francisco, but I submitted my name in anyways. A couple months later (early 2015 by now I think) and I surprisingly got an email on a Monday asking me to be in SF by Thursday of that same week. I was working at the time but begged for a few days off knowing I’d never get a chance like that again. So I immediately bought a last minute plane ticket (for something like $1300) from Maine to SF, and actually got to appear in the final season volunteer special episode. We filmed for two days, pretending to grocery shop and waiting in lines all day for the myth, might have been the most mundane myth to test but it was still so cool to be on set. My screen time was incredibly limited but I still (briefly) made the final cut!
