i can barely remember 10 years ago, but one of my favorite memories was starting an acting club with all of my best friends in elementary (i’m young, bear with me here). we all had tons of fun and even got to go compete places. we kept it up for a few years until we placed so high we got at all-expenses-paid trip to Knoxville, TN to compete globally, it was such an amazing experience and i still talk to all of the people on the team, they were my first real friends :))
thats so awesome! myth busters with adam and jamie was such a fun show. havent seen any receenetly if they’re still doing it, but i loved it back in the day
I don’t particularly need another yoyo. But here are a few pics from a happy day 10 years ago. This is a nice & scenic loop that I like to bike in the Spring. 100 miles with 8,000ft of climbing. It goes in the fields behind the mountains that enclose the Silicon Valley. Actually this route goes very close to the house of forum member @Evertonian in Livermore. A couple years ago I stopped by Dylan’s place to say Hi. On “rainy” years (rainy is all relative, this is California which is a desert - by now we haven’t had rain in 6 months), there can be nice wildflowers displays. So yes, as the expression says, I slow down and smell the roses.
10 years later, this bike is long gone, I sold it a few years ago. The car is long gone, I donated it to the Salvation Army. The taco truck has moved to a less convenient location, it is so successful that now they operate 3 trucks. And I still bike this loop most years. This past Spring the flowers were very beautiful.
Good stuff, thanks for sharing!
On top of producing music are you also a sound engineer? I know you got an eye for sound gear and have seen a few photos you’ve posted with crazy cool looking set ups.
Oh, forgot to mention, I also have a full-time job as a photographer. So not fully sustained through music these days.
Not getting rich doing either but the bills are paid!..and man, I’m having a blast!
I have a few jobs all relating to audio/music. primary career is product management at a pro-audio loudspeaker manufacturer, i also run a very small audio company where i provide loudspeaker systems for events, audio engineering services for live events, sound system design, sound system commissioning/tuning/optimization. i also have done quite a bit of mix/mastering work for electronic music.
photography is still a fun creative endeavor, even if you’re working full time for someone else. being able to have a blast while working is all we can hope for <3
10 years ago was an eventful year for me. I graduated from high school, got my first job, turned 18, moved out of my parents house, got my first car, lost one of my best friends, got into my first serious relationship ( boi did that not end well) and began what would inevitably become the “adult” portion of my life. So much change and struggle that year but man if I’m not grateful for pushing myself through that, to make way for the great things the following ten years had to offer.
Now if I were that same kid, from ten years ago, trying to imagine what my life would look like, it might very much resemble staring into the nebula. A bunch of unknown. Scattered darkness. Yet being here now, I have nothing but gratefulness for everything I’ve built for myself. All starting with those major life changes 10 years ago.
Thanks a ton for sharing that wonderful memory, Pierre! That loop sounds like it has a very special place in heart. When I get a bike some day, I’ll put that loop into my “Bucket Ride” list. What was your go-to order at the taco truck?
I’ve always been a huge baseball fan, and the Atlanta Braves have been my team since I was old enough to have one. As a huge Braves fan who was born in 1989, I saw Chipper Jones’s entire career. I was 6 for his first full season and 23 when he retired. I spent the bulk of my life idolizing him (at least on the baseball field). I played third base, wore number 10, and wore my pants high long after it was the norm because of him. I named my dog Chipper and threatened to name my firstborn Larry Wayne because of him. The Braves and Chipper in particular were a huge part of my life for a long, long time. After he retired following the 2012 season, my wife surprised me with tickets to a Braves game in June 2013. That game just so happened to be preceded by Chipper’s number retirement ceremony. Getting to sit in the stands and see them unveil the #10 on the facade is the best sports memory I have and will likely never be topped. On top of that, it remains one of the most significant and meaningful gifts anyone has ever given me.
All that said what I really want to say is, man what a community! Everybody is so positive and generous. Just not something you see much these days. Happy I’ve picked the hobby back up after a nearly 25 year break.
October 2013 was when I turned 18. I vividly and embarrassingly remember one snippet from my birthday party that my friends set up for me. They had arranged a Borat style mankini that I was supposed to wear and do circus stuff, including throwing some yo-yos. After my “performance” I sent out a picture of me to my then girlfriend, now wife.
Soon after I got a response stating “be safe and don’t do anything stupid!” That really didn’t sound like my gf’s words and then I realized it. I had accidentally sent that picture to my mother in law, who had almost the same name as her daughter. The laughter from the boys still hasn’t faded away and we’re in good terms with my MIL. Haven’t sent anything explicit to her after that.
Fun times, 2013 was great. I still had my 1st run Avalanche. To this date, I’ve never thrown a G2 which is a shame!
Favorite memory from a decade ago has to be my family vacation from Maui. One of the last trips we took before my grandfather died and also one of the few times where my family on my father’s side actually got along. Also have memories of searching for geckos at night with my mom, beautiful sunsets, and amazing food. Even got to touch a sea turtle while snorkeling (fun fact- they are very leathery)!!! I don’t really care if I win (although a G2 would be admittedly cool), just thanks for giving me an excuse to remember that👍
thank you @Woodyrson, @vilezky, and @Yoyogeek15 for sharing.
really appreciate everyone’s participation so far. i knew this was going to be fun to read everyone’s memories, but it has been even better than I expected. its going to be hard to pick on Friday.
bump!
2013 wast 10 years ago already?? my the time really does fly!! Anyway, 10 years ago i still working my first construction job. I was rigging cranes in Atlanta Georgia. I still wasnt 21 for most of the year, so i had to drink beer unofficially still lol. I met my wife that year and we have since had a child, a son, my pride and joy. Also i dont have any g2’s and it would be cool to try one. thank you for what youre doing, its really awesome for the community.
10 years ago…man that takes me back. Id just moved back home from ball state to switch to IPFW (Purdue fort wayne is what its called now) and i was super depressed because me and my high school sweetheart had finally called it quits for good. I was really into halo at the time and halo 4 had recently come out. Met some new friends with the old friends, did some mushrooms in may of that year…i still have a memory thats ingrained from that night for better or for worse. And i went to three halo 4 LAN events.
At the event in pennsylvania i think Pittsburgh everyone was drinking and for some reason there was this huge rock paper scissors tournament we did. I ended up in the finals and was drunk off my ■■■■■■■ full of ■■■■ and i was like “imma do this with my eyes closed i aint scared” ended up winning everyone had a laugh. Then either at that event or the knoxville one, there was a party and i hung out with ninja just chillin on the couch and chatting. Crazy that like 5 years after he was this mega huge streamer lol
Still miss the days of halo 3 in the heyday.
Crazy that it was so long ago.
Ten years ago, in 2010, I was just getting back into yoyoing after giving it up as a kid. I had purchased a new yo-yo, a Yomega Maverick, and was practicing in my backyard. One day, my neighbor’s grandson saw me and asked if he could try it. I let him and he picked up yoyoing quickly, showing me some tricks I had never seen before.
We ended up spending hours in the backyard, taking turns trying new tricks and teaching each other. It was such a fun and unexpected bonding experience, and I remember being amazed by how skilled this young kid was at yoyoing.
Since then, we have kept in touch and still talk about yoyos and occasionally meet up to yoyo together. That day in 2010 sparked a friendship that has lasted a decade and counting, all because of a shared love for yoyoing. It’s a memory that always brings a smile to my face and reminds me of the joy and community that yoyoing can bring.
Favorite memory from 10 years ago.
After working some side gigs, had a small internet service provider hire me, got paid a little more, found out three weeks later my wife found out she was pregnant, and things were crazy. After the whirlwind of news we had to take a weekend getaway up to the door county Peninsula. The drive up was magical almost, seeing tractors working in the fields between the sunset and harvest moon, driving through a small college town watching people perform the Gangnam style dance. Passing through the small towns celebrating homecomings. Going in and out of the forests filled with autumn leaves. The drive was amazing.
Made it to the destination and it was just awesome. We were a young couple heavily in love, enjoying each other’s company. Took a nice stroll out by the lake, pelted each other with acorns on the trails, walked through the many shops looking at things we couldn’t afford. Enjoyed the various fires they had at night, one was at a fish boil. A ritual of collection of fish/potatos/onions in a pot of water, and waiting for the pot to boil over to serve dinner. The fish was under seasoned and bony, potato was still kind of raw, yet was an oddly satisfying meal.
When the trip had to end, we were discussing jokingly creating a sub chain called “Chubby Subbies” with deep fried sandwiches, filled with various unhealthy dishes from around the world. Listened to a Packers game on the radio while driving through Green Bay, and laughing at the various naughty billboards competing with the holy ones.
Ah, well even if I don’t win, its a win for myself rethinking on it.
One of my favorite memories from a decade ago was going on a road trip with my best friends. We had just graduated high school and were about to embark on different paths for college, so we decided to take one last trip together before parting ways. We packed our bags, piled into a car, and set off with no real destination in mind.
We drove for hours, listening to our favorite songs, telling stories, and laughing until our stomachs hurt. We stopped in small towns along the way, trying new foods, taking silly pictures, and exploring local shops. It was the epitome of carefree and spontaneous youth.
After a day of driving, we stumbled upon a small campground near a lake and decided to stay the night. We pitched a tent, built a fire, and spent the evening roasting marshmallows and sharing our hopes and dreams for the future.
As we lay in our sleeping bags, gazing up at the stars, we talked about how much we would miss each other and promised to always stay in touch. It was a bittersweet moment, knowing our time together was coming to an end but also cherishing the precious memories we had created.
That road trip was a perfect mix of adventure, friendship, and nostalgia. It’s a memory I will always hold dear and will always remind me of the special bond I share with my best friends.
Some absolutely incredible memories shared this morning yall, thank you so much for participating! Reading these special memories is making me so happy, and I’m very grateful for all the smiles.
About a decade ago i saw a video of the gyroscopic flop and i was amazed that a yoyo could do that and had to learn. So i rekindled my love yoyos that i had in elementary school with my yomega fireball. Also my education on unresponsive yoyos and how fun and frustrating it is to learn new tricks
10 years ago, I started dating my now wife. Coming from someone who had zero intentions of getting married, one the best decision I made.
