I feel like I am seeing a ton of GBPs hitting the secondary market, is this a result of resellers flooding the drops or is there just something that polarizing in the throw itself? Any owners care to chime in about how or what it plays like?
I can’t really speak to other’s experiences, but…
I like the GBP, but it is very different than other bi-metals. Throwing almost anything after the GBP makes it feel much heavier than normal.
I think another reason we’re seeing it is that it was a pre-order, and many people bought multiples. I like the GBP quite a bit, but it might be hard to justify needing 2 or 3 of them.
This, and the Pateron folks also got them as well. Kind of the same thing happened with the Black Spider Web Banshees and the Area 51 Respawns, everyone who wanted one, got one and they don’t have a secondary market desirability yet.
I love it, but I’m a big fan of light Yoyos. I’m guessing if it isn’t people selling off multiples it’s because they are either used to throwing bricks or are using too long of a string at first and it feels uncontrollable compared to normal weight yoyos . If you start out shorter string with a light yoyo it helps you get used to handling it before you go to a longer string.
G2 yoyo’s did a huge preorder/drop of the GBP a few weeks back in 12 different colorways. I haven’t seen many of the more premium versions with the fancy purple or rainbow rims up for grabs but some of the less expensive colorways are going up for grabs. I think most have bought multiples and are putting up their spares for sale.
It’s a very interesting yoyo at an extremely light 48g. There’s no mass and not much presence on the string which takes some getting used to. It reminds me a lot of the (monometal) RCS Author, another light yoyo. Both are fast and nimble, except it unlike the Author, there is more power and stability and you can actually do longer extended string tricks. I like the Author but I always find myself overthrowing it trying to get it to spin longer. I don’t do that with the GBP. If you like extremely light yoyos, it’s really really great. There isn’t much in that weight class and there is nothing at that weight that has nearly that amount of power and spin. It’s also great if you want to do all-day long practice sessions and need to pace yourself or need to reduce wear and tear on an injured arm or shoulder. If you prefer heavier more powerful yoyos you probably aren’t going to like this one.
edit: actually there are a couple of the premium colorways up on the BST right now.
I’m one of the people selling one of their multiples, so I can attest to that happening a bit. In my case I ordered two colorways during pre-order: one that I liked the potential for a lot and one that was a more predictable choice. All the colorways as seen at pre-order were renders and I thought the Lucid Dreams colorway was going to be hit-or-miss so I also ordered a Blackout because the black-on-black can’t go wrong. I got them both and didn’t end up loving how the Lucid Dreams came out (it looks good, just personally it’s not for me); so now it’s up for grabs and I’ll keep loving the other. Can’t speak for everyone else but that’s why I’m selling one.
I feel like both of the rainbow rims colorways didn’t turn out well at all from the pictures but I haven’t got mine yet so I can’t say whether I’m going to like it. I bought both of the rainbow rims colorways. The rims were a far cry from the standard G2 quality rainbow rims like the lucid dreams arbiter, and the arbiter was an inner rim bimetal as well, which is harder to get the rainbow effect right on.
