Looking for mods that don’t take specialized tools and such.
Super fine sandpaper will make it grindable.
If you want to mess around with mods, picke up a butterfly xt. $5 hurts less, and you can experiement more before doing the final draft on a fh1.

Agreed that the cheaper the yoyo, the more reckless fun you can have without as much potential regret lol.
As far as freehands specifically, cap swaps are a pretty simple mod. I’ve only done it on the AL version, but I’m pretty sure the AL caps fit on the FH1 (someone correct me if I’m wrong).
I wanted to do a half swap with the red and gold AL, but it bothered me that the gold body had gold caps and the red body also had gold caps, so I got some extra red caps and swapped it out:
I had a FH zero that was my first capable throw like 20 years ago (holy crap), I modded it to absolute death… painted, sanded, hub stacks, rubber rims, literally whatever I could think of
I don’t have it anymore so this was a little homage.
You can shave the lip off of the response area with an x-acto knife pretty easily.
Have someone 3D print weight rings out of different materials to add more rim weight. Check out Wayne’s awesome caps and mods for the FH series. They are sick! Downloads | Layer Infinity
Upgrade the bearings
Add some covers for the nuts like we used to do back in the day with the OG freehands. The friction sticker centers are perfectly sized for the post.
Here’s a new FH1 I did up a couple of years ago. It played so good and all the mods were super simple but they amplified it to play way beyond what stock gives you.
