Stripped My FH1 HELP

Yo I stripped the axle on my FH1. What do I do? I am pretty sure only the axle is messed up bc I saw all threads like little metal circles and the threads on the axle look all short and gone basically. Can I just like buy something at a hardware store or what’s up?

Find someone with a tap and die set.

The FH1 uses hex nuts that you can buy and replace for cheap. You just need to pop the caps off. @GTDropKnot

Beyond YoYo sells the axle replacement/ upgrade kit, it is currently out of stock tho

Pop the caps off and get the nuts, take them and the axle to a hardware store. That axle won’t be exactly the same but you should be able to find a small piece of all thread to replace it with.

The biggest issue with all thread will be making 100% certain you don’t over tighten.

You can do this by placing a small amount of Teflon tape on the all thread in the spot that the smooth part of the old axle covers.

I have emailed Duncan about replacement axles for FH1s and was told that they will not be selling them so you’re pretty much doomed to making something work or cannibalizing another freehand.

Ok easy fix like others have said. Pop the cap and go to hardware store and get a 6/32 nylon lock nut

I use a bike pump right?

On the side with the axle you apply pressure to the axle while holding the rim. Do it in a surface you won’t damage like a towel. If you need, you can tap it with a rubber mallet.

On the side without an axle, you use a pump with an inflating needle (like you would use on a ball). You may need to tape up the needle with masking tape to fill the hole and make a seal. Wear ear protection!

Thanks y’all!

On the plastic ones you can use a normal threaded 6/32 axle to push the cap off

Bahhhhh i was really trying to keep it straight. I cannot get these suckers off like this one was bowing way way out before the axle bent. I got a bro w a bike pump and they said it’s cool if i swing by and use that.

I think im going to need to rubber mallet it but like how do i hold it to make this work? Like if i put the cap side down so i can mallet it, will the cap have enough room to pop off?

Dynamite :firecracker:

Its not about force, you’ll crack something

This Thread shares a lot of techniques.

Cap up. Axle down. Gentle taps on the edge if you’re using the mallet. Really pad the axle or brace it on a cutting board or something.

I usually tap the axle on concrete until it pushes through but I’ve also cracked a cap doing that so uhh careful I guess. Worse case bring it to Indy states and we can tinker there
