First Yoyorecreation Yoyo Recommendation

Hello everyone! I have been wanting to try out YYR for a long time now. Which yoyos do you like by them? Some that interest me are the Upheaval Expansion, Liminal Autoscopy, and Empty. Any help would be appreciated!

Liminal Autoscopy, Savage, and Onslaught some of the greatest modern yoyo ever made

I would assign Liminal Autoscopy and Savage to heads/tails

and just flip the actual coin

both are so unique and cannot be replace by other bimetal

I’ve become a big YYR fan this year. The yoyo that convinced me that they’re worth the hype is actually the Tricklab Standard. The Knok is my favorite YYR and has basically become my daily driver. I could write a lot about these two yoyos… but it sounds like you’re after a bimetal.

I actually didn’t really like the Empty. I found it too light and it just didn’t click for me. But your mileage may vary.

I’d recommend starting with a Chopsticks Gorilla from the BST. Seems like this one gets recommended a lot. It performs extremely well, yet doesn’t suffer at all from bimetal kickback or rim-weighted sluggishness. In fact, the play is bouncy, zippy, and even a bit floaty. The spin-up and binds feel superb thanks to the mid-wall. Very fun, performant yoyo with a gorgeous aesthetic imo.

The Chopsticks Gorilla seems very nice actually. I do have a preference towards smaller yoyos and loved Akiba’s style of play:)

Forgot to mention that I haven’t tried the Upheaval Expansion or Liminal Autoscopy, though I’m sure they’re excellent! The Gorilla has been around for a while though and you can get them for for a good price here on the BST.

I recently took a trip to Tokyo and stopped by the nir store, where I got to sample all of the current yyr yoyos (except the one’s released at worlds this year), and my personal favorite had to have been the KWK. That however was outside my price range, and I ended up getting a Toru 0.999. I always see people hyping up the upheaval expansion, and liminal autoscopy, but I personally preferred the Toru. you can also find on the bst sometimes for good prices too.

I have a somewhat related question that I was reminded of because of this post/the liminal autoscopy being mentioned.

I’ve seen people say that the plastic on these type of tri-material yo-yos is prone to cracking/damage. To what extent is this true or an actual issue?

This is a good question. In addition, I wonder if Delrin/POM has the same issues as Polycarbonate in these cases where both are used interchangeably in the same design.

Depends what you’re looking for - modern YYR has both high performance models and some weirder stuff. Here’s what I own/remember trying, a couple of them I wrote reviews on:

Upheaval/Upheaval Expansion - really good modern competition bimetal, not the most unique and you can generally find a similar equivalent from other brands

Savage - stands out in the world of competition bi/trimetals, heavy and fast which is cool (review here). It’s interesting to compare it to the Anceps. Both heavy and wide but approach it in different ways.

Savage55 - plays lighter than the normal Savage, maybe a touch less powerful/stable

Liminal Autoscopy - maybe the most stable yoyo I’ve played with, I’m really curious how the Re Autoscopy plays (review here)

Autoscopy - powerful, stable, not super unique in a way similar to the Upheaval

Fluffy Fluffy - very fun and capable organic for its weight (59g)

Empty - unique, super zippy and I like mine but not worth the cost ($120) for a 6061 and plastic hybrid

Overdrive Draupnir - floatier than the Upheaval and slightly less powerful, not a bad yoyo but definitely one of the more eh in their lineup

I personally haven’t seen cracking in any of the YYR models with plastic outer rings, it probably happens but it’s generally more likely with models like the Adrenaline

if there’s a PC material on its yoyo that would more likely prone to stress cracks overtime unlike POM materials

Savage or Upheaval Expansion are both gonna hit

Savage is a personal favorite of mine though.
