Just slip the yo-yo between your index and middle finger and go in for the shake. Or refuse the shake and go for a fist bump.

This happened to me on Christmas. I clumsily let the yo-yo drop and my brother-in-law didn’t miss a beat. He pulled up and we shook hands in time to keep it going up and down a few times.
