Dying delrin details

So I’d like to try my hand at dying a delrin yoyo and a couple delrin spin tops. I’ve found plenty of info on the actual dying process. My question is does anyone have any ideas how this mask was done by Calico Joe? It seems too intricate to be hot glue.

Elmer’s glue maybe? I know that’s been used for masking before.

That would be my guess as well. He showed a lot of work on TheYo forums and it seems to me that’s what he used.

As a caveat though, that is a poly carb yoyo so he used an acetone bath. Doesn’t the delrin dyeing process use hot water? Would the elmer’s glue stand up to that?

I think (but I’ll check to make sure) that it’s the opposite. I think delrin or celcon uses cold water.

Edit- you are right @jhb8426, delrin needs hot water.

Delrin/celcon/POM is hot water. Hot water causes the pores to open up on acetal plastics and accept the dye. Also since you’re doing acetal plastics you can actually probably get away with just using silicone or rubber cement, should come off pretty easily afterwards.
