Duncan Freehand One AL with half spec bearing

I am wondering if anyone has swapped in a half spec bearing to make their FH1 AL play responsive, did you have to change the axle? It came with a 10mm axle and KK bearing, I put the half spec bearing in and had to put an 8mm axle in to close the gap.

Just wanted to make sure this is correct.

Yes, that’s correct. Just throw in an 8mm axle along with the half spec, and make sure your half spec is packed with your thick lube of choice. I like it responsive with the caps removed, which shaves off like 5-6 grams.

The regular FHAL also works with a halfspec, personally preferred it unresponsive

I did the bearing and axle and threw it about a dozen times, it seems good. I will try adding the thick lube, for now I’m going to leave the caps on.
