Duncan butterfly Al

Hey gang, quick question for ya. I’ve been after a butterfly AL for a lil bit. Most of the ones I can find online have the white Delrin caps on them. My question may seem a bit dumb dumb but is the Duncan butterfly logo under those caps? I’ve looked about online for just a reg AL butterfly, but they’re kinda few and far between. I managed to snag one the other evening from someone and Ive just been wondering bout it.

Like the one on bottom. Is it just a matter of a different throw all together?

2023 Aluminum Butterfly

I was unsuccessful popping the caps with a suction cup, so I took extreme measures. [image] [image] [image] My first impression playing with the caps off is that I think I like it more with them on. Fortunately, I can pop them back on if I want. Without the caps it feels like the weight distribution is off. I was wondering if it would feel more like a Weekender, but it doesn’t really feel that way to me. I also think the smaller pads are just less snappy than other modern responsive throws…

The throw included Butterfly stickers that you could put on.

The one on bottom is the first Butterfly AL. The delrin cap one is the second.

Ahhh okay. I snagged the bottom one last night and I was really confused when I poked around on the web looking for..

They are two different yoyos. I have the old, all metal, one and it’s OK, but it feels a little heavy and clunky.

Butterfly AL Caps

Goal is just to see how it plays without them. So I’m happy to report, that the caps indeed can be removed. I put a presta valve adapter on my bike pump and it made a perfect seal. 2-3 pumps and BANG! The caps weigh 8 grams each, bringing it from 62g down to 46g! So yeah, it’s super light now and plays kinda weird. [IMG_1903]

I believe there are a couple versions of the Al Butterfly, the 2019 version which is all aluminum, and the 2023 version which has delrin caps. I think the 2019 version came with both a size C bearing and a half-spec C, while the 2023 has a smaller A bearing. The 2023 came with 2 pairs of stickers that could be applied to the caps (one pair of standard butterfly, and one pair psychadelic butterfly).
