Duncan Barracuda X vs. Tourney

The Barracuda X and the Tourney have nearly identical specs, though they have different shapes and gap widths. For those of you who have both, which do you prefer and why?

I had a Tourney and I borrowed a friendā€™s Barracuda X for a while. From what I know of your preferences, I would definitely recommend the Barracuda X. It plays very solid, stable and powerful. Itā€™s a little narrower than many modern throws, but I know you donā€™t care for wider throws. Itā€™s not the fastest, and carries a lot of momentum.

The Tourney plays more like a modernized old school throw. Itā€™s kind of like a ā€˜super monometalā€™ in that it keeps the sweet feeling and agility of a monometal, but adds a little extra performance. Itā€™s definitely not the most stable or powerful throw, but it has great feel and flow.

Definitely agree with @Nocompromise on the Tourney feeling like a suped-up monometal (in a good way). The Barracuda X is pretty similar to the Dominator if a little lighter maybe; itā€™s definitely Duncanā€™s take on the same shape. So if you want something similar to one of your favorite throws, go Barracuda X, but if you want something different, go Tourney.

Both are excellent throws. Each have great spin times and stability( tough I feel I get a more stable pitch from the 'cuda and longer from the Tourney).

The ring placement of the Tourney causes it to play like a undersized yoyo, that kind of agile punchiness. The slightly narrower gap gives it a snappy comeback, good thing itā€™s got that soft rounded profilešŸ˜‰. The 6061 aluminum also gives it a softer feel to the hand. Has a touch of floatiness, but not like the Duncan GTXā€™s.
BarracudaX has an ā€œon railsā€ feel to it, as itā€™s steel rings are at the edges. A beefier feeling on this throw, it fills the hand (but not too much). More of a tank, not a rock on a string or anything, but itā€™s definitely not a floater.
Both are great for 1a and 5a. I play the hell out of my 'cudaā€™s though. I have a whole school of them.

Throw Duncan all day!

Thanks guys!

Iā€™m going to be on the lookout for one of those red Barracuda Xs.

Keep those eyes peeled then. I think they only made 35 or so as it was the preproduction model.

You mean there is no red production model?

Just my luck. :confounded:

I saw one of the black ā€œWhipā€ edition on the yye shop. Itā€™s my favorite. I love the yoyo sunset on the ocean.
