I’m like 5’8"-5’9" and prefer somewhere in the middle of long and short. I don’t switch strings until they snap and just wash them, so once I find an example I’m happy with I tend to just use that until it snaps out.
To the belly button seems to provide the best of both worlds, meaning controllability and enough length for complex mounts in tricks

3 fingers below sternum for unresponsive, 3 fingers above belly button for responsive.

short for responsive, long for unresponsive, but sometimes i tweak for yoyo size. shorter string on smaller diameter, longer for larger diameter.
