Did the name of a yoyo make you want it?

I’m not really that much of a fan of small yoyos but when I first saw the Recess Snack I knew I had to get one and a year or two later I did. If the Snack was called XJ470 I would have never been interested but the size and name, Snack was so appealing and conjured childhood feelings of a delicious…snack.

Now, I keep looking at the Duncan Exit 8 and being attracted to the name for some reason and wanting to own it because of the name. I have no special memories or any memories at all of an actual exit 8 and I do not want to spend the money to buy a yoyo because of the name.

I can’t be the only one who has been attracted to a yoyo because of its name.

I recently found out that 2sick has a bunch of yoyos named after chess pieces and chess concepts… couldn’t help myself. Can’t say I’m in love with them but i do love chess and yoyos so it was hard to resist.

Speaking of snacks, as much as I love the TiRAMiSU on its own merits (both of them, actually), the name certainly didn’t hurt my want to get them.

Did the name of a yoyo make you want it?

No, shape, weight and various others specs determine my needs. Color to a lesser extent.

Call something a “yoyo” and I want it!

Happy cake day!

The yoyo I want the most because of it’s name was the Wooly Markmont. Extremely clever to me.

Yes. I had to have a Space Cadet just from its name.

I thought the Antithesis was a super clever name. Never got to try it though.

I love the names. They make them feel like they have stories. The terrarian, the sliver, and I love all the yoyo friends names. Personality.

There are a few names that are so good that they definitely are a plus. Peregrine for example. Not sure if a name ever tipped the scales enough to actually make me pick anything up, but it can definitely help. Conversely, there are names/themes that made me not want to want them, but the yo-yo themselves were so good that I couldn’t stay away.

And, since you mentioned the Exit 8, I’ll say that I had no idea if I’d like it but wanted it just because of the player whose name was on it and it ended up being a favorite of mine.

Get the exit 8 even if you don’t like undersized . It’s worth it . Also yes I think names and fancy splashes really get my attention . I have YoYos I don’t play much but hang out on my shelf just because I like the look of them .

Names don’t inspire me one bit…

That being said, if the name was ‘Free yo-yo’, that would be sorta inspirational.

I think a name is important, but its not what seals the deal. Usually my order of figuring out whether or not I want something stems from: Profile → specs → is it on bst? → price → rarity/cool points/colorways → extras? → everything else → name

A good name does influence me.

Name>>>Brand>>>Price>>>Name>>>Shape>>>Material>>>Colorway>>>name

So here’s my literal thought process.

I read a cool name, “Hey, the Kapital. The spelling is wierd, I wonder what thats about?”

I look at the brand, “Oh Yoyofactory, I have lots of those, and they are pretty good throws.”

I check price, “$50, that’s within the budget.”

I go back to name, “Well, it has a unique name, so I like that. If it was named the N1 or something generic like that, I would think it was cheap and I’d not like it as much.”

I see the shape, “I do like Organics!”

I check the material, “6061, not plastic. That’s what I’m looking for!”

I view the colorways, “Oh I like that Red with the small engraving!”

And finally back to name, “Well, the Kapital is in the cart. I like the sound of that. The Kapital, neat.”

Maybe I’m simple minded, but if my dog and my Ex-lady had the same first name, the dog would sleep outside much more often.

At first thought I immediately said no. Then I thought a little more and remembered Sengoku existed. They are the one and only company that has intrigued me with names (multiple times as well).

I ended up not buying it. But the Sliver still has crazy attraction to me. Back in the 90’s I played MTG and when the Slivers first came out I felt like they were crazy powerful in the right deck and started playing them.

I still have a sliver Infinite mana combo deck lying here at home with 3 Sliver Queens in it. (Used to be 4…one disappeared somehow…which is pretty sad considering the worth of that card currently)

I still want a Sliver yoyo just for the name. But it doesn’t seem like my kind of throw and I also won’t buy one just because of the name.

I bought the sliver hehe. I loved the name. I also loved the colors and the box. I also happen to love the yoyo. All around one of the coolest.

Yeah I still lowkey want one. But it’s on the lower end of my list.

I read this then bought a b-grade Snack about 30 minutes later….
