That moment when you realize you’re inches away from smacking the ceiling…have done that many times myself

I’m sure opinions will continue to develop once I get past the honeymoon phase but so far, I’m impressed with the Deepest - so far it is the most comfortable to hold (like No Jive comfortable). With a bit of setup (I swapped to spikes, did my own “grease bucket” treatment), I’m pretty impressed with these! So far it’s taken what I loved about the Deeper and plus’d it with the addition of side effects, and a little bit more wall for better stall control.

Currently using my normal Monkeyfinger Vines on it - tried the thick string that came with it but wasn’t quite used to how it felt, couldn’t get tight planet hops with it.

Update 1: Ended up swapping out the stock One Drop strings to my little bit thicker Monkeyfinger Vines. Now we’re talking - clean moons. I’m sure everyone will have their own preferences on what feels right for them - the stock string was making moons “too tight” to where it would go in on itself. I imagine the fatter string would make the moons super wide. Now to challenge myself - how moons can I do before I either knock myself out or muscle memory kicks in and I end up sticking a lunar landing?

With the grease bucket it’s about what I wanted. I imagine it would be a fun slim line unres too but I like how it plays in responsive atm

Idk if I like the Deepest State or the grease bucket. I’ll be the negative Nancy here.

Thoroughly unimpressed with the set up out of the box. Plays kiiiinda responsive but not enough to do anything with IMO. Just responsive enough to be really annoying. Swapping in a grease bucket has this exactly where I want it. Snappy but decent sleeps, a weight distribution that makes sense. Feels awesome. But if I would’ve just got this stock, I feel like I might’ve given up on it.

The recessed ultra grey with a conkave bearing and HKMT Toru string plays just how I hoped! Brass UL seem perfect for now. I have taken a very chill responsive throw and made it into a pretty punishing 1a yoyo! Spin times are alright, the largeish diameter helps for sure. It’s already a little centerweighted and the brass UL add even more but I feel it does need a liiitle bit more mass for 1a so I’ll take the trade. No problem getting through my usual long combos, just gotta lock in more because any imperfections will tilt it. Have to enter the deepest state of concentration to focus on playing clean. I bet if I play some wide yoyos after a while of practicing on the deepest state it will feel like easy mode.

I like it a lot, I knew I could make it do what I wanted when I saw the design, and yoyoing got where it is today because of people playing with their toys “wrong” anyway :sign_of_the_horns:

Maybe I’ll get some normal colorways from a future run and make them into 3A torture devices :joy:

Ok so I’ve put some time in on the Deepest and feel like I’ve gotten to know it a bit more and hopefully out of the initial honeymoon phase. It still stands that I’m really enjoying this iteration. I’ve been throwing my BC Apollo/Blackbird and other similarly-shaped throws (TK No Jive, Sleep Machine) and this is giving the same energy. It’s very comfortable and laid back, or as I like to describe it as “comfort food” or a “comfy pair of shoes.” I’m continuing with the spikes as I’m enjoying the pull start-ability, much like having matador spikes on a 1a yoyo. I don’t have many responsives that can easily pull start from the hub aside from the TopYo Brick (using the spinning plate lego brick), or any that have the dimple (which I’m still not very good at pull starting those). I still want to get a hold of those grease bucket bearings but until then, some Danco Silicone Grease is working great and super snappy response even at lower RPMs.

Despite the yoyo having a somewhat smooth-feeling finish, I can still tape measure with ease, which is also something I like to use quite a bit.

In the end, the Deeper and Deepest States have to be my favorite C-bearing responsives.

This nailed it. That “comfort food” comparison is spot-on. I use mine daily just to unwind, the pull start and smooth spin make it perfect for those quick sessions when you don’t want to think too hard about technique

I’ve tested several different setups with this Deepest State. I tried a few different weight Side Effects and I landed on Flats or Domes in red for my Golden beauty. I’ll have to order them as I don’t have any. I tried it with modded Side Effects and the same shim/half SPEC setup I use in the other States. First thoughts… it seems maybe these have a tighter gap than the older ones as the same setup was too responsive. After that I tried it with the greased bearing and quite honestly… this one plays “perfect” set up like this. The added weight on this and the diameter give it very respectable spin time with the greased bearing. I also appreciate that this gives you more room for string than going half SPEC. I think playing around with some shimming could yield some great results and I’ll probably try some more in the future.
The comfort is amazing and there are just too many choices available these days to pick a favorite but this one is definitely up top.

Oh yeah? I also Snagged up a grease bucket. My DS came pretty tight right outa the box, so I haven’t even touched the new bucket bearing. I was gonna sit it aside and wait till I got a throw that I felt really needed it. Now I’m not so sure..

Now I’m def gonna have to try it in the deepest state..

Even though it was @DocPop‘s responsive counterweight tutorials that brought me back to yo-yos after many years, I have a history since of buying nice responsives but going back to unresponsives pretty quickly.

My responsive trick set is a relatively shallow collection of stalls and regens (and years of trying to do more than ~20 clean loops), but the Deepest State does it all well for me. I must have spent 3+ hours yesterday with the stock setup and my hacky grease-and-lubricant-avoidant quadruple wrapped string, and the performance and response was perfect.

Consistent when stalling low-speed breakaways, and reliable enough that I am finally learning shoot-the-moon. Only about 15 seconds of sleep (while still being able to return to the hand), but that’s plenty for what I am trying to do.

I always preferred the design of the Deep State over the Deeper State, but found the Deeper State a little more playable. Deepest State almost perfects what I like about both. The only exception is that I prefer the simpler design in the cup of the Deep State. I assumed that I would prefer the smaller size of the Deep State, but Deepest State is not too big. I think that the rounder profile and larger size make it play lighter than it is. And Side Effects are just cool.

I had learned my lesson and sworn off new responsives. I think I would have given his one a miss too, because while I have never been disappointed by One Drop, I try not to buy yo-yos I know I am not going to use.

Credit to @codinghorror’s long running build up to the reveal, and everyone’s effort put into making this yo-yo not just a great yo-yo, but a piece of something more, personal and positive.

I feel like the Deeper State being tapped is like when Jeep released the YJ with square headlights. It was overall a massive improvement over the CJ, and an incredible performer off-road, but going from round to square headlights for some was just wrong.

Long live side effects!!!

Yup the side effects were a big selling point for me. I love being able to make a yoyo “mine” by both how it looks cosmetically and how it feels/functionality. In this case, the matador spikes on a responsive. My OG Deep State was ran with spikes as a wild experiment a year or so ago and it stuck. Wasn’t exactly comfortable in the pocket though as the point did stick out some past the yoyo. Not an issue with the Deepest.

As for the deeper, I appreciated its width and slightly larger size. The latest blended what I enjoyed about both, with a very comfy shape.

I did have to reapply some silicone grease the other day as I was feeling some response slip. Either leaked out or I didn’t exactly do enough to begin with. I’ll have grease buckets in a few days so I’ll be able to throw them into my Deepest’s and my Deeper.

Huge shoutout to @cowmamba for the sick matching counterweight!

A week later and a slight change to the yoyo - I ordered some Grease Buckets this past friday, arrived today. So far I’m enjoying them, VERY similar to my own grease-packed bearings. I will be curious though how much longer these will last. I had a week of constant play with my own packed bearings and either some leaked out (string got a bit gross-looking) or I didn’t quite pack it enough.

I notice the Grease Bucket bearings feel like they offer more spin time (as evidenced by how much spin I still have left after splitting the atom and doing 3 rolls, or how much spin there is when I’m doing tape measures) but will respond on command even at lower speeds. Also just in general, looked at the build of the bearing and it looks like one can still remove the shields by popping out those spring clips should they need to service them…but hopefully I won’t need to for a long time
