what are some household items that you could use to clean a bearing?
rubbing alchohol? (sp)
soapy water? (i have less hope for)
what else?
and what exactly is mineral spirites (i am bad at sp)

Don’t use rubbing alcohol; it has water in it and other things that may contaminate your bearing.
Don’t use soapy water; it is water. Water helps steel rust not to mention the soap. Soap leaves behind soap scum. Soap scum isn’t good for bearings.
What you want is a good solvent. Mineral spirits and lighter fluid are some of the better ones.
