Atmos Cloudweaves || B+ (87/100)

The string is pretty slick and pretty soft while not being completely plush, and it becomes slicker as you use it (fingers and hands lost the tactile feel most strings have). Felt a lot like what nylon blends go for. Comfort was so good that I rarely noticed the string itself, if that makes sense. Few strings can do that, and it’s normally ones that mesh really well with the person. For thickness, I’ve always felt like slick/soft/nylon-y strings have tighter binds, and being a fat thickness made that tight feeling a bit uncomfortable to me but never unplayable. Slacks were on the speedy side, and the shapes of the slack looked more lopsided/forward-facing with a bit of weight to them if that makes sense (maybe one day i’ll get a photo of what I mean). Thickness probably had a bit to do with it, since whips were VERY similar. Very fast, kept shape well, bit weighted, you all get it by now. I’ve yet to see a string where whips felt speedy and slacks felt too slow, they’re often correlated. Over the hour, literally none of the performance feel changed. Maybe it was because I was focusing on zoning and not many slack/whip-heavy tricks, but any change passed my radar. Tension was still good, feel was good, maybe binds felt weirder? but that’s my gut talking and not my memory. Tension-holding with this string is great, by the way.

Nothing else to say with this that wouldn’t be overextending the review. No nonsense with this one :head_shaking_vertically: idk if it’s still being sold but definitely try it if you like string like this. Comfortable, long-lasting, reliable for any kind of trick (probably). Only reason it’s not A-tier is because of the thick-feel thing.

Or you mean updated version?

I definitely was going to order some Canopy Rope but wasn’t sure if the new kind would still bring the praise of the last batch, so went with some Alphaline whiteout, hoping it would be similar to the previous Canopy. Would also love any thoughts

also curious on @theendofcake’s thoughts on the new Canopy Rope blend, I wonder how different it is and if it’s noticeable

Canopy Rope (Updated Blend) || A+ (97/100)

The string feels REALLY soft while not becoming too invisible on the hands, but it is a bit slippery/slick compared to most poly strings, both on the slipknot and on your fingers. Regardless, it’s probably the best feeling string I’ve ever used, and I knew it the moment it touched my fingers. Its 100% a fat feeling string, and if your technique isn’t perfect you can get the occasional snag or overly tight bind on yo-yos with snow tires or with high-response pads, but I use 60-50 shore pads and summer tires so i’m living it up. Whips and slacks are very “performative,” if that makes sense. They’re decently speedy (but not crazy fast), clear, and open with a bit more weight on the front-side of the slacks, which all make for consistent but fast paced play. There’s nothing unusual with it durability-wise throughout the hour, but slacks and whips did begin to feel less fast and more solid if that makes sense. The slickness made way for solid weight and presence after the break-in, and I’m really a fan of it. Other strings sometimes feel more flimsy in the air, get snaggy (especially in my humid environment), or even start to feel lighter with time, this string does none of that. Tension holding was fine but got annoying bit annoying by the end, and durability was phenomenal, especially for bulk. The main thing is that over time, it kept a lot of its solidity and lost a good bit of its softness, a lot like the old Rope.

Here’s a tiny section on the differences i noticed!

Durability 30 min: New is more solid/frays less than Old, but the fray part is purely aesthetic.
Durability 1 hr: Same diff
Personal Thickness Feel: Same, but my stupid brain keeps telling me New is thicker bc of feel alone. Maybe binds just feel tighter, maybe I suck at binding
Whip Feel Break-In: No Diff
Whip Feel 1 hr: No diff
Slack Feel Break-In: New feels heavier
Slack Feel 1 hr: Same diff
Tension Hold over 1 hour overall: Same
Softness during break-in: New is way softer
Overall consistency over 1 hour: Because of the solidity changes, New feels more consistent

Solidity is the main thing going on. if you haven’t noticed. Because of it, the string feels a bit heavier, is addictively soft, and has improved consistency. This string is clearly tuned towards performance, which I noticed in the open and slightly quick slacks and whips. Despite that, the comfort aspects of the string makes me feel like it’s more for a “laid-back” style, with string that assists you in your play while still feeling good to use. I’ve found that the string doesn’t lose its flair with either style. It’s both a competitively viable string that flows well and a perfect string for simply playing with a yoyo and vibing out for a WHILE, at whatever skill level that may look like. I lean towards more comp-oriented meta/zoning/slack tricks, so this feels right up my alley. I prefer this new blend, and I’m debating whether to buy more of it on top of the 100ish I have left of the old blend. If the solidity was offset by making the string a bit thinner, I’d probably buy it all. Still the best on the market for my tastes, minimal contest. Stats below.

Nice I’m gonna have to try it! Thanks.

Where can we find this “updated” blend? (I mean retailers).

Thanks for your answer! I have seen that one but for some reason I think this is the 2024 blend and not the 2025 that @theendofcake is talking about.

I read the heck out of this a few weeks ago before ordering a ton of different strings lol. Appreciate the guide!

W1LD String (Chen Yang Signature) || C+ (77/100)

I’d like to start this by talking about the difference between soft, plush, and slick. “Plush” strings are like the plushness of blankets, which feel kind of puffy and big, like a cotton ball pressed into a string. “Soft” strings are like soft blankets, which can feel smooth, slick, fuzzy, or silky (although string vaguely so, exception of Joo String, shoutout). “Slick”, on the other hand, feels like a liquidy cohesive texture that gives the string a kind of one-ness as opposed to feeling every coil of the string (i know some strings will have lube to make it/bring out the slickness). Some blankets can be soft while not slick, some can be slick and that brings out the softness, and some can be all three (like 100% nylon). It sounds like pseudoscience, but it’s my new hypothesis to describe what i’ve noticed.

ALL that, just to say that this string is soft while lacking the plushness of OT Fat. The twists/coils of the string blend into one another when feeling it while breaking it in, but quickly feels more rough and sectioned off as it loses softness. The thickness helps keep it all together.

The whip speed is classic(ly) fast, your usual string optimized for modern tricks (and i *think* it’s either the same speed or faster than ot fat). Slacks are weird; i can’t nail down the weight, and i’ve found slack movement being both too fast and too lagging behind the yoyo, which i guess you can call front-heavy and back-heavy in reference to 2D slack work. Either way, it felt very sensitive to technique, which is good since it feels great when you get your movement right. The string aged FAST and started developing a lot of fuzzies while catching on itself more, stopping on every coil. Tension holding was fine when the string was new, but it began to be a small issue near the hour. The comfort factor was kind of meh by the end, but i actually think slacks got better. They start good, feel weird for a second, and then feel good again?? Whips felt the same, if not a bit better. The string seemed to get more solid and more rough as it aged, like it burned off the softness of the initial feel.

Overall, this is definitely OT. Durability is always on the lower end, but the performance is always nice. The thing is, the way the string gets fuzzy and rough does make me a bit sad. For the people who don’t care about that / like that, this is only $20 ($3 more) than a 100 pack of OT fat. Weirdly enough, although i thought i like this more than OT Fat, the scores lower. Maybe my standards got higher, maybe i should take a second look at OT Fat. It’s all subjective anyways. That’s it! Stats below.

Spotlight String || B (84/100)

The string is soft, a bit more on the plush end, 100% fat in thickness, and tightly wound. The last two things contribute to it feeling both really fast and really solid in the air. Speed and solidity are the key aspects of this string that make it likable to me. Slacks feel amazing: they’re a bit heavy without being uncomfortable, are consistently open, and don’t feel like they’re outpacing me. Whips are in the perfect spot where they aren’t crazy fast but still help you hit hard tricks. I actually landed 2.5 hook for the first time with this string, just because of how study and fast it was (and also its bright yellow made it easy to see).
Durability is amazing and matches my expectation for a premium polyester bulk string option. Whips at the hour stayed similar enough to how it was fresh that i couldn’t see a difference, but slacks became just a bit harder to navigate due to how the string started to feel. It started to get a bit rough and sticky due to my sweaty hands and humid environment, which made it start to get stuck to itself in the same way that OT Chen Yang/W1LD string did (but it’s not as bad). Barely a difference though, since they still felt fast and solid. Consistency felt amazing, and if it didn’t get a bit worn at the end it would have been perfect.
Overall, I am really impressed! I completely understand the decisions made to make this a competition-ready 2025-era string. Definitely fits Hunter’s insanely hard tricks. I’d choose this over OT Fat ANY day of the week, and I’m kind of bummed the yellow and white are sold out. Stats below!

OT Jonathan Sitanggang Signature String || B+ (87/100)

Everything about this string feels very traditional: Normal thickness, normal tightness, white color, slightly soft. However, when I started playing with this it felt amazing. Nothing is too much, no particular attribute feels emphasized besides the ones that simply make a well-functioning string: solid slacks, good speed that you control on any slack and whip trick, good tension holding, and good feel on the hands in the beginning. I think slacks go a bit too slow for me, but I think I understand why: Jonathan does a lot of intricate slack tech tricks that I feel like something too speedy or thick may interfere with the precision necessary to land his tricks, but i’m just speculating. The string held up fine at the 30 minute mark, with some fuzzies and no elasticity with stretching the string beforehand. It was almost exactly the same at the hour, both durability and performance-wise, but it felt a bit gross to handle with how rough it got. I guess you can say it broke in fast! But I didn’t like the comfort factor of it, just the performance.
Overall, very above-average (and uncommon normal-thickness) competition string! It’s a shame it just barely skimmed out the A tier. It’s amazing for about 30-40 minutes, then it’s just fine. People that like rough worn-in string may find OT JS to be their favorite! I hope that’s the crowd that reads this one. Stats below.
