BvM Problems

My bear vs mans bearing normally just falls out, but recently it has come to the point where not even pliers can get them out. Ive tried freezing it and the bearing is wrecked because I’ve actually pulled chunks of metal off of the bearing try to remove it. Thank you in advance.

What?

The bearing went from falling out to being stuck?

Clearly, something bad has happened! Would you care to share? I can’t figure out what would cause such a dramatic change to the bearing seat.

Why would you freeze a yoyo?

I believe freezing it causes the metal’s in the yoyo to contract a bit. I also believe that aluminum will contract more when frozen then steel of the bearing, which will give a little more play between the bearing and it’s seat.

Feel free to correct my if I’m wrong but I believe that is the reasoning behind it.

Can’t say if aluminum will contract more than steel, but other than that, that’s pretty much it.

I’d also invest in a bearing puller, but I’m nut sure if that’s going to help based on the description. Something massively bad had to happen to go from the bearing being able to fall out to being stuck like that.

I did a bit of research and aluminum does in fact contract more then steel when frozen. Aluminum’s thermal coefficient is nearly twice that of steels’ at room temp. So basically the colder you can get your throw the better if your goal is removing a stuck bearing.

Isn’t science more fun when dealing with yoyo’s?

Yes, science is fun when I can directly apply it to something. Well, I’m not tossing any yoyos in the freezer, but that’s still an interest bit of information to keep in the back of my head.

I have to pick my yoyos to bring for my trip tomorrow. I really don’t want to go. Oh well.

so with this problem is why you want to get a bearing removal tool. they’re only $6. its a greta investment and worth it to buy. also you don’t wreak your bearings from using pliers.
